Just not into spas and body moisturiser and stuff

I feel like I’m not as girly sometimes as other women..realise this is a ridiculous statement, but let me explain.
I used to use sun beds (bad) go to the gym, get my hair blowed dry most weekends and nails done sometimes when younger. I’ve always had long hair and worn make up and been into clothes/fashion (much less so since having my dc)
However, aside from briefly when young, I never get my nails done (don’t like the look or have the urge too) my nails are bad really, I bite them sometimes 😬never had or want a pedicure, don’t use body moisturiser and only recently became really concerned about good face care (because I’m looking older in mid 40’s now)
Lots of my friends idea of heaven is a spa, I don’t like the thought of it at all..aside from maybe swimming and lying down, not massages and treatments etc. I like the after part of my hair being done but hate going to the hairdressers. My sister has highlights and her nails and eyebrows done etc, even my mum had semi permanent make up done. I just feel so many women do so much to take care of themselves and I’m just like meh 🫤 Anyone else like this?

YANBU
I rarely visit a hairdresser, and have never gone to a spa or had my nails/brows/whatever done. Sounds like my idea of hell.

Could have written this post . Im clean ( shower twice a day ) use a hot rough flannel on my face at night . Shave if I have too .
I look very feminine and feel if you see what I mean .

My gym has a spa but I’ve never used it. Bit of a mystery to me. I do take care of my skin (face and body), get hair cut and coloured regularly but don’t get nails done.

What I do
Shower daily, floss, clean teeth, skincare routine, haircut twice a year, paint toenails, shave legs, makeup when I feel like it (I love makeup but WFH so feel it's wasted!), moisturise body when I feel like it, exfoliate body, foot cream nightly, paint fingernails when I CBA, wash and diffuse my hair and wear perfume
I do my own eyebrows and dermaplaning and intermittently whiten teeth

What I don't do
Botox (have done before and would again though), fillers, gel nails, waxing, hair dye, brush my hair, straighten hair, treatments (although I'm going to do a flotation tank!), pay for eyebrows, veneers

That sounds like I'm high maintenance Blush but genuinely not

I do like the gym but that’s for fitness reasons rather than aesthetic ones. I also like massages because I find them really relaxing. Other than that, I just make sure I’m clean. My fingernails are short, I very rarely wear make-up, I let my hair dry naturally, I shave my legs every so often. I don’t use moisturisers because I have oily skin so just look greasy and get spots if I do. I’m happy as I am and I don’t seem to make people recoil in horror so I assume I'm doing alright.

Honestly, nobody cares or notices. I shower daily and wear deodorant or perfume. Cut my nails short ( I type a lot and find long ones annoying). I use tret and face cream ( only now that I am in my fifties) but no body cream as I have oily skin. Get my hair cut at a salon but do my own blowdries. Wear a light lipstick and BB cream and eyeliner, but no other makeup. Shave my legs in summer, shave armpits all year around. No Botox or fillers or treatments.

It's fine for me. Others enjoy doing more- my DD for instance- and that's fine for them.

I’d run a mile from spas, but body moisturiser?? Some of us need it! If I don’t use it my skin starts resembling a prehistoric scaly lizard.

DanceMonster · 30/03/2023 09:32

You do more than I do 🤷🏻‍♀️. I do moisturise my body though as that’s not really a ‘cosmetic’ thing, it’s just to stop my skin being dry.

YANBU op it’s totally normal, my DM is exactly the same. I think a lot of women are. But just waiting for the the predictable posts from all those queuing up to criticise women who do is depressing. In MN world getting a fake tan or gel nails is one of the worst crimes you could commit. Many women feel a sort of moral superiority for not liking this stuff.

GardeningQuestionTime · 30/03/2023 09:41

I don't enjoy getting my hair done, or my nails done, or a pedicure or massages. I get them done as it makes me look better. But not regularly...

I'm not at all girly. And my nails tbh are dreadful.

CinnamonEstella · 30/03/2023 09:53

I wash every day with soap, and wash my hair every day too (I have long hair).

I’ve never worn any make up, blow dried my hair, used body lotion or face cream or sun beds or fake tan or any of those things.
I don’t dye my hair.
I went to a spa once and didn’t like it.

I would say most of my friends are similar to me. We are always neat, and clean and tidy, but we have always been more “natural look”. So it’s easier for someone like me who isn’t really interested to blend in with them.
If my social group all preferred a different look, I’d stand out like a sore thumb.
It wouldn’t actually matter though.

Whats normal for you and those around you is largely culturally influenced, although of course everyone can like whatever they like.

Yes 😂 usually followed up by ‘oh I just love getting stuck into a good book, I would rather spend my time reading’ as if you can’t wear lipstick and in the same day turn the pages of a paperback.
