AIBU to enjoy 'disaster' books?

Following on from a thread I read on MH370 which led to me binge listening to the audible podcast on it today.

I just really like these types of books (this was a first podcast):
The Unthinkable: who survives when disaster strikes and why
102 minutes (twin towers)
Moorgate - the end of the line
7/7 - Into the Darkness
Collision on Tenerife

I like to think I'm at least picking well written and informative versions which also cover the psychological aspects of the events.... but, it also feels a bit voyeuristic...

So, AIBU reading these books?

And because this is actually lighthearted (I know, given the subject matter!) if anyone has any other good recommendations that would be good!

I haven’t read much of this but I did read a book called the only plane in the sky, it stayed with me. It’s about 9/11 and basically little snippets from eye witness accounts all pieced together. It’s so clever the way it was collated to tell the story coherently without an ‘author’. Quite hard to read in places but might be something you’d be into. I prefer reading non fiction but also really love a fictional thriller, we enjoy what we enjoy!

I really recommend the Admiral Cloudberg write-ups of plane crashes on Medium if you find those stories interesting. The book Flight 232 by Lawrence Gonzales is also very good. I have had a real interest in that sort of stuff (stories of bad things happening in real life) since I was very young and I'm sure there's some psychological reasons behind it. The recent book by Lucy Easthope about her work in disaster recovery is also excellent.

@TheChosenTwo I've read that one - I also thought it was really good.

@Reasonforliving Thanks for these - spent last night going down the Admiral Cloudberg rabbit hole!

When I worked in a bookshop at the airport some of the most regular sales were the black box disaster books. Wouldn't be my idea of light reading for the plane.....but it definitely means you're not alone!
