To think today’s article about Auriol Grey paint a very different picture

I was sad to see articles today about the woman jailed for the death of a cyclist. At the time of the offence she was living in a home for the disabled. If this is the case my experience is places like that aren’t easily available.
Shes partially blind, has balance problems and cognitive difficulties after a birth injury to the brain. She’s had related brain surgery.
If this is the case, as her family’s appeal stated, then there does seem a disconnect with the judge saying no difficulties that impacted her actions. Accessing supported living yet being deemed able-bodied and cognitively normal by a court.
Obviously the incident was horrendous for the Ward family, and the cyclist need not deserve to die. It’s a sad case. However the handling of the case is starting to sound uncomfortable. What have others thought of the articles today?

@Markasread as long as you say so then.

You are making excuses because she doesn't fit into the narrative of what a disabled person should be/ look like. I actually think you are doing her a disservice by making excuses for her under the guise of her disability. Does they mean she has no perception of right or wrong? That she gets a free pass? This was all discussed in her second trial and the CPS released further footage to show why they prosecuted her.

She was 'callous' what with her pushing someone into moving traffic and causing her death.

I don't understand what you mean when you say I'm making excuses because she doesn't fit a narrative of disability. What narrative is that? I wasn't aware that people with disabilities had to look or sound a certain way.

There is so much more to assessment of risk, information processing and choice of response than knowing the difference between right and wrong. I note that you claimed she pushed Celia. There is no proof of this. Yet you're clearly under the impression it happened. That's a good example of how bias distorts realty A was under the impression, not altogether wrongly, that she was at risk of being run over by a person on a bike. Why she'd fear this and over react to it are issues relating directly to her disability.

Given that the police didn't interview her in the presence of a solicitor, I have no confidence in what they have to say about the extra footage they have.

What you say about bias is interesting.

With respect to the ‘push’, it was notable, on the threads that popped up in the immediate aftermath of the sentencing, that some of Auriol Grey’s strongest supporters actually made complete u-turns and said that, contrary to their earlier posts and having now zoomed in on the clearest version of the video they could find, they too could now see an apparent push.

It is, however, odd that having highlighted the impact bias has on perceptions of reality, you confidently state that AG was under the impression, not altogether wrongly, that she was at risk of being hit. That is, of course, not an established fact and was not accepted by the jury, judge, or many of the other posters on this thread. You seem very entrenched in your own biases.

None of it makes sense. She is ‘child like, a recluse’ yet able to go out alone. Why isn’t she classed as too vulnerable to go out on her own. If that’s the case.

She admits she swore and touched the cyclist.

Just because some is "vulnerable" or indeed "child like" doesn't mean that they can't walk around their local area unaccompanied.

In a weird coincidence I'm literally walking along a train platform just now and was almost taken out by a cyclist, bombing along where they definitely shouldn't be cycling.

Wow, there are a lot of sick responses from the far left virtue signal mob in this thread. There are few to none defending Auriol who don't sound like they would ban prisons altogether if it were up to them.

In a way, I am relieved those defending Auriol/dismissing Ms Wards death are either of a Woke persuasion or sociopathic adversaries of cyclists. Not credible individuals.

ZeroWorshipHere · 30/03/2023 06:08

I do find the “what’s the point of putting her in prison / it won’t bring CW back” people strange. I’m ok with the idea of a prison sentence being a punishment for a crime as well as an attempt at rehabilitation - I had no idea that might be a radical thing to say.
