Posting for traffic, hope that’s ok.
I completed the ADHD screening checklist recently and have traits that are ‘highly consistent with ADHD’ (scored 4 in section A and 9 in section B) mostly inattentive with some impulsivity, for those in the know.
It’s been a bit of an eye opener and is helping me feel less guilty /inadequate about ‘flaws’ I’ve struggled with all my life.
I’m not considering seeking out a full assessment and don’t consider myself in the same ballpark as those for whom ADHD is a significant problem, but for curiosities sake I am intrigued as to how much of an impact your ADHD traits have to have on your life to meet the criteria for diagnosis? I lose at least an hour a day at home and work looking for things I’ve misplaced. And my poor attention and memory affect my ability to form /keep friendships and can cause (minor) difficulties in my job. These things I would class as more inconveniences and frustrations than significant impairment. I plod along, regularly frustrated by my fuck ups but fortunately I forget them quickly!
For those officially diagnosed would you mind sharing your experience of the diagnosis judgements? I’m curious as to where I might fit in.
Are more people like me, is this a lot more common than we realise?
