I’m being terrorised in my own home.

Okay dramatic kinda……

Fucking cellar spiders. I’m massively arachnophobic and my house seems to be over run with them. They’re in every corner, they’re in my cupboards. I literally feel on eggshells in my own home. I want them out.

I do have some small holes in the ceilings from wear and tear etc which I have got some stuff to fill them in to get rid of the pesky little spindly legged fuckers.

Any other advice before I literally add them onto the tenancy and surrender to them

We lived in a house with huge spiders all the time, no matter how many we evicted there were always more, then after 9 years we moved and the only ones we have seen here are tiny teeny ones you can barely see with your eyes (well my old eyes anyway), so maybe move? 🤣

Somanycats · 25/03/2023 14:12

Indorex. Can't praise it enough. Spray in every room liberally and around doors and windows. You will find the bodies for days. I now spray every few months as a precaution, but never see any remains any more and never see a living one.

LTB house

Viviennemary · 25/03/2023 14:16

So is a cellar spider just a daddy long legs. Not nice but nowhere near as horrible as real spiders.

Aworldofmyown · 25/03/2023 14:16

I leave those spiders, I'm also very anti spider. But as others have said, thoe eat the big hairy ones so I let them stay 😆 tbh once they've found a spot they don't really move!!

Stressedafff · 25/03/2023 17:03

Can someone link me to the indorex please as I’m only getting the fly one on Google?

See I tried justifying them by using the knowledge they ate the big ones but I could cope with having to hoover up 1 or 2 big ones a month over these pricks every 5 minutes. They just take over and I’m ready to serve them their notice

Plus they just leave their manky cobwebs everywhere as well, just pick a spot and stay in it, annoying sods

I was hugely arachnophobic, it had a huge impact on my life so I really really sympathise with you. Some people don't understand it.
I realised I was passing the phobia to my daughter 2 summers ago so I really had to get to grips with it and I ended up holding a giant house spider in my hand! Honestly couldn't believe I managed it.
Now I can't say I love them but I'm no longer on edge and unwell with anxiety every autumn.
Those spindly legged ones are actually fabulous because they'll eat the big chonky boys. They look huge and creepy but I promise you they're great to have around.

Get cats, mine chase and eat spiders. Not the ceiling ones though unfortunately

Greyarea12 · 25/03/2023 17:48

Aw God.. its awful eh. I also have a massive phobia of spiders. There's a spray I use, I can't look it up as pictures of spiders will come up but you can get it on amazon. Its a black and red bottle with a red lid. It's been the best one I have ever used. Spray it in the holes/around windows/doors etc.. I have came across a few spiders already dead on my window sills because of this spray of which I can't HATE to pick them up but I would rather them dead than running and hiding.

Bluekerfuffle · 25/03/2023 17:51

Do those type really eat the other “proper” spiders? I must get a few of them, I don’t mind them, but find regular spiders horrifying.

Stressedafff · 25/03/2023 18:10

That says it’s for fleas will it kill these spindly legged squatters too?

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 25/03/2023 18:11

Do you know the cellar spiders eat the big fuck off bastards that come out in autumn? That helped me make friends with them.

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 25/03/2023 00:39

I have arachnophobia too. However, I’ve learned to tolerate the spindly cellar spider dudes after I saw one completely overwhelm & kill my arch nemesis,- Tenegaria Gigantea (otherwise known as the Big Hairy Nopes in this house).

It was like a lion taking down a 2 legged gazelle.

Love this 😃🤣

MissMooley · 25/03/2023 18:12

@Stressedafff yep, the flea stuff will do it.
I assume most of us noticed how effective it is for other bugs after treating for fleas x

That would be fine if they stayed in their corners and cleaned up after themselves

Corner of the room, absolutely fine you eat the BFG’s and enjoy the free food
In the pan cupboard? Behind my headboard? They’re taking the piss now

I love the spindly legged dudes. Had loads of them in my last house and never once saw a giant house spider because they sorted them out. I wish I’d scooped them into a box and taken them to my current house with me because I get insane amounts of horrible big brown house spiders every autumn here.

Where do you live? 😂 I’ve got some here you can have, feel free to remove them hahaha

When I moved into my Victorian terraced house a few years ago, there were cellar spiders EVERYWHERE. In all the kitchen cupboards, corners of rooms, under stairs cupboard.

i sucked most of them up with the hoover at the time, but over time they come back and I have actually learned to live with them. I literally have no other pest in the house, have never had any other type of spider, and because they’re so spindly, the move so slowly they don’t scare me like the other regular black spiders.

I keep them at bay by doing a cull everyone now and again, but actually glad I have them!

Ponoka7 · 25/03/2023 18:33

If you regularly hoover up the webs, they move out. They aren't as adapt at spinning webs as other spiders and get fed up. They are welcome in my living room, because as said, any other spider/insect won't last long.

Stressedafff · 25/03/2023 18:36

I don’t mind one or 2 of them, but i hoovered 7 from my living room this morning, and there’s already a new one on the ceiling, I look like a mad woman constantly waving a handheld hoover about trying to get them

its a good point about the webs tbf, they never do seem to loiter with their webs and I don’t always notice them til they’ve decided they don’t want that specific web anymore and go to make another somewhere else. Why are they so awkward. Just 8 legged toddlers
