Have had my car for 2 years. It's an 18 reg so not old. I'm the past month is had three separate issues. Nothing costing a lot but annoying and meant it's been off the road. The current issue is stopping it's mot test so I'm now without a car. Tempted to just seen it on and be done. I need a reliable car to get to with (20 miles each way each day).
Recommend me a good make or advise me what to do (or just share in my misery).

What are the issues? If you sell it and get another, you could end up with another problem. Sometimes it's better to fix the one you have.

What have been the issues so far? I work in the motor trade so can help with whether or not it’s normal maintenance/wear and tear that you’ll find on most cars, or whether it’s something a little more serious 😁.

All depends on what car you got and mileage service history etc ?
Is it a Diesel just doing the school run. If so thats not great for the DPF etc.
Without knowing what you got and what its used its hard to say.

What's the problem?

Who is going to buy it with a problem that needs fixing to make it roadworthy?

BlueSpark · 25/03/2023 16:54

I know what you mean. I have had my car a year and it has just had an expensive issue. I wasn't sure if it was fixed and thought perhaps I should get rid and get another (probably with someone else's problem) but it's prob best to stick.

Realistically, 2018 cars are starting to get niggles. Is it a typical niggle that is wear and tear and would happen with any car?

What problems are you having with it now?

Depending on the issues you're having, it may not be worth getting another car - wear and tear is normal and will happen regardless of the make/model.

I find my car goes through phases of needing stuff doing - new tyres, new wipers, new brake pads - then nothing for years - then a few bits again. I think that's normal though - stuff needs replacing eventually.

Depends if the problems it’s had may be connected and once fixed all will be well for a good while.

there is no guarantee that a new car will be better. My pal had a brand new bmw. Drove it out the showroom. That thing was in and out for repairs nonstop for a year. At which point she decided to get another. Even brand new cars can be crap.
