Well it has my name and my email.

Every message comes from a different email/domain.

It can't be random spam as it has my name.

I darent even click on any links to see if there are pics on there. There well could be.

Not sure what to do. It has to be him.

Any thoughts?

I'm going to have to have a look aren't I? If it is him, obviously - police.

FFS 🙄

Does he have photos of you he could have uploaded, or do you think he's "just" signed you up for spam? Because the first is a criminal offence.

Rollercoaster1920 · 24/03/2023 13:46

Don't click on the links!

Your name and email could be out there for many reasons (including your ex's contacts being hacked).

I get loads every day, not due to malicious exes. I think a linked in hack a few years back was the worst for spreading my details. But also any online competitions are a nightmare.

ClaireJohnson1981 · 24/03/2023 13:47

Isn’t that a crime? I would contact the police? x

He has photos of me. He also knows it's an offence. He knows I will call the police in that case.

But I guess I'll never know unless I check it out.

It's all women too (he had a problem with my bisexuality). I mean, they're quite fit, but no doubt fake and I'm not looking for a meet n shag!

I've had this particular email for over 10 years and it wasn't the email I shared with him generally chatting, although did send couple of messages early on.

It's always been very safe.

I know someone who used to sign people up to stuff in some sort of pointless revenge scenario. I think she's probably not alone.

Yeah, I'm thinking this.

It's worrying me too much. It's annoying.

I'd almost rather find pics of me so I can call the police once and for all.

What sites are they? Are they legit sites?

Reugny · 24/03/2023 13:58

If the email address is on any database for any reason such as retailers, service providers e.g. broadband or used by a fiends/relations, then that database or friends/relations' can easily be hacked.

All the email addresses I use have been compromised at some point though one more than the rest.

Also some email providers emails are more prone to being sent spam than others.

The spam seems to come in waves e.g. the spammers work out how to get around the spam filters. I just mark all emails as spam and then it decreases again.

Anyway either your email provider may do it or there are sites were you can check whether your email address has been compromised.

BillyNoM8s · 24/03/2023 13:58

What sort of sites do you mean? What sort of emails have you received?

BertaHoon · 24/03/2023 13:59

Allmyghosts · 24/03/2023 13:55

Not that I can see as each email comes from a different domain.com... I tried to Google one and nothing.

Need to pop out right now, will check back later.

I'm thinking just leave the silly twat to it, but 🤷

Sharing someone's email address isn't a crime unless you are a company as you likely have people's other personal details stored with it.

Sharing intimate photos of someone is.

Anyway the site I was looking for was https://haveibeenpwned.com/

ilovemydogmore · 24/03/2023 14:02

I think you need to check and see exactly what it is.

Emails senders can absolutely use programs that your name and email address, my guess is that it's a non-malicious (as in, not a personal attack by your ex) spam situation because a company you have signed up to has been hacked.

BertaHoon · 24/03/2023 14:02

It's not a porn site btw it's a hook up site.

I’m not clear, what are these messages saying?

Whiteroomjoy · 24/03/2023 14:06

Are you sure he signed you up? I dint used to get junk email of sex type or cryptocurrency type - occasional but rare.
I then bought and sold my homes. I joined up to mailing lists of estate agents- quite a lot in a short space offtime
since then my email address has been inundated with quite graphic sex sites, all random email adresses(as fast as I block other appear): and shortly after that crypto currency and finance scams.

some of stuff even in titles is pretty disgusting

I had to change my email address in the end as it was just too much, 30 plus in a day

so, I think it can start from anyone who isn’t applying correct security, and once it gets out there for one person it will be handed on to loads veryvquickly

just check this before you accuse him

Sassyfox · 24/03/2023 14:14

My spam folder is full of stuff like this and sometimes they do end up in my inbox.

I would try and go on to the sites to see if there is a profile of you with your photos as then you can contact the police.

Do not click any links but you can reply and ask politely how they know you.
They will hopefully give you the website and then you can check.

Irridescantshimmmer · 24/03/2023 14:22

Check if your email address has been pawned

If it has just change your password and unsubscribe from the dodgy emails.

haveibeenpwned.com/

BlackBarbies · 24/03/2023 14:26

This happened to an old friend of mine!

When he broke up with his ex, she posted all his details on multiple gay hook up sites. She didn’t post any intimate pictures of him (so no revenge porn) but she posted his face, number, email and partial email address.

My friend had calls and messages DAILY. It was actually insane. Ultimately he had to change his number and email address as the police said there’s nothing they can do

Reugny · 25/03/2023 16:30

@BlackBarbies if the CPS prosecuted a handful of cases like this that it would stop people doing it.

77Betty · 25/03/2023 18:50

I get these all the time . I was worried someone had signed me up or someone using my email .
i googled and it’s says your email address can be sold. , I received one emails saying hot sarah would love to meet you I clicked link and it was a sex/chat dating site and had my email my age no picture but wrong location , it was spam , I also get a lot from hot Russian woman wanting to meet me , local fuxk buddy meets wanting to meet me I am a straight female and African dr’s offering a 20 sec ritual for enlarging my non existent penis .
so I googled what to do so each time I get this in my junk I forward to spam@icloud.com
good luck and don’t worry failing that open a new email account if your worried .
