Micro scooter instead of pushchair on Ryanair flight?

Hi there.

Has anyone tried substituting a pushchair with a micro scooter on a Ryanair flight for free? DD is almost 4 years old so a little too old for the pushchair but she's still quite a slow walker and gets tired easily, so we use her micro scooter all the time. Last time we took it on Jet2 free of charge but I know Ryanair are very difficult so I'm asking if anyone has tried this.

Their guidelines say:

"If you are travelling with an infant or child you can carry one fully collapsible pushchair and another smaller item such as a car seat or travel cot for free. Please ensure that your pushchair is tagged at bag drop desk or boarding gate. Any other items (maximum 20kg) will need to be checked in, for a fee and placed in the aircraft hold."

Surely a scooter can be considered a "smaller item" for a child?

Am I being unreasonable? :-)

I would contact them in writing (email), if they say yes print out the email and take it with you when you check in so there's no arguments.

I'd put it in a small hold-all to protect it so technically it would look like and weigh like a travel cot - but if you just turn up at the airport with an extra bag they will ask you what's in it and then probably charge you knowing Ryanair.

if you check it in… put it in a bag and call it a travel cot or car seat. As hand luggage - they may or may not let you take it. And just because they let you take it one way doesn’t mean they let you take it the other…

very true... thanks

I talked to RyanAir about Micro Maxi foldable scooter for a 5yo.
They said to check it in as hold luggage for a full fee (£28 in my case).
Folded dimensions are 56x24x16 so officially you can't even take it on board.
So if you do anything other than check it it (pass it as baby equipment or cabin luggage) official rules are not on your side. You might get lucky or have to pay ~£70 fee for extra luggage.

Will it fit into your hold luggage and just pack clothes around it?
