AIBU to demand medication from GP as can't follow a low FODMAP diet and I am utterly depressed

I have had stomach problems for almost a year (pain, bloating etc), had all sorts of tests/scans which were all fine and saw (i say saw, spoke to on the phone!) a Gastroenterologist a month ago who diagnosed Functional Dyspepsia - basically IBS but in the stomach as opposed to the bowels, obviously by eliminating other things.
Anyway, the gastro suggested I try an IBS diet for 2 months and if that doesn't work try a low FODMAP diet and if that doesn't work they will prescribe medication.
I don't have the greatest diet in the world anyway, so I decided to go straight in with the low FODMAP diet as the thought of this dragging out for even longer makes me feel so low. I had already tried in the preceding months cutting out things like gluten, dairy (which I don't have a lot of anyway) sugar etc, none of which changed the fact that I permanently look 6 months pregnant, get full really quickly and have stomach and back pain every single day.
I have tried the low FODMAP for 4 weeks now, it has made no difference at all and I am finding it utterly depressing. It is really getting me down as it is so restrictive so I am eating with zero enjoyment and zero change in my symptoms.
I sent a consult to my GP today and said as such, and that at this point I just want to try the medication (which i think is a low does anti-depressant as PPI's haven't worked) and I have received a text message reply saying 'Gastro letter suggested trying the diet for 2 months, then FODMAP and i suggest you stay on this for as long as suggested before looking at alternatives'
I have a gastro follow up in June and I cannot deal with this for much longer. I have lost 2 stone since June last year. I can't eat properly, I am utterly miserable.

Can i disagree with GP on this? and the gastro? and just demand to opt straight for medication at this point? I am so angry and tired and fed up.

It depends on what the side effects of the medication are, especially long-term. I can't imagine anyone recommending low FODMAP lightly.

It sounds awful but any diet change takes about six weeks to kick in ad far as I know. Keep up the good work ! You are giving it a good shoot !

I think it's the Gastroenterologist who is reviewing you and deciding on your management, so you need to discuss with them.

There are certain medications the GP would not prescribe.

You can disagree if you like but you would be unreasonable to "demand" anything. The GP is following the advice of the gastro specialist. If you are not happy with the advice you could phone the consultants medical secretary, explain the situation and ask for the June appointment to be brought forward. They may be willing to write to the GP to change their recommendations.

You say you skipped trying out the IBS diet and went straight for the FODMAP. If it’s less limiting then I don’t see the harm trying that first? It’s surely better than going the medication route.

@HarryBlaster
That's because once I received the diet advice through the post I realised I had already tried it.
