AIBU to think that the government need to pull their fingers out and sort something out with the doctors?

Next potential doctor strike announced today - a 96 hour strike immediately after Easter weekend. This would have a massive impact on NHS services.

Acute patients would be safe in the hands of the consultants, nurses, HCAs etc. however, according to NHS England medical director Prof Sir Stephen Powis "this strike (the 3 day doctor strike) was on an unprecedented scale and had a greater impact than all the other industrial action we have seen so far this winter combined".

AIBU to believe that the government owe it to all users of the NHS to make negotiating a deal with the doctors a high priority to prevent this disruption?

YANBU!

The BMA tried to negotiate with the government before the doctors were balloted and they refused to even discuss it.

They declined meaningful discussions ahead of the 3-day strike.

They messed the BMA around when arranging a time to meet after the first lot of strikes and when they eventually did turn up, late, they had no counter offer to the BMA's request for full pay restoration.

The BMA have a large mandate for action and Mr. Barclay and his team need to start negotiating.

DOI: I am a junior doctor who loves their job and does not want to strike. I have never worked a full rota and have lost many wonderful colleagues to jobs abroad, jobs in different fields and unfortunately mental health difficulties secondary to the job.

Also a junior doc.

Your comment is 100% correct, the government won't even sit down at the table. They need to step up.

1 person doesn't think that the government should get on with negotiating. I'd be interested to know their reasoning.

Surely, it would be better all round to reach an agreement?

YANBU

I support the doctors 100%. I wasn't aware that the term 'junior' refers to registrars and doctors that have been qualified for so long.

I think whether you support them or not, anyone must agree that this dispute needs settling ASAP. I'm worried at the prospect of 10 days with no elective care with the long Easter weekend and then the strike.

I'm actually surprised that I haven't seen much on Mumsnet about this next, 4 day doctor strike (immediately after Easter weekend). Unless I've missed a thread?
