To pull out of job interview for this reason?

Hi,

I am very early on in a job search. I really like my current job and love my colleagues but the pay isn’t great and I just generally think it is time to move on.

I have an interview for a job which sounds great on paper but I’ve just looked up the company on glassdoor and it has terrible reviews from former employees. The only good review has seemingly been made by the CEO (according to the other reviewers).

Accusations of bullying junior staff members, disorganisation and extreme stress, as well as high staff turnover.

I have an amazing work environment right now and wouldn’t want to give that up, even if the money is a bit better at this other job.

What do you guys think? The interview is this Friday would I be unreasonable to cancel it for this reason?

Thanks

Most companies have shitty reviews on GlassDoor. Go to the interview and assess for yourself.

I should add, I have to travel quite far for this interview and take a day of AL.

I’d go to interview and see how you feel. I always figure interviews are never a waste anyway cause they’re great experience! I would be concerned about the Glassdoor stuff but equally reckon it’s a bit like most reviews, you’re more tempted to leave one if you’re really cross!

@WhyCantYourPartnerDoIt I suppose. My current and previous company both have 4+ though. I’ve never seen such a stream of damning one star reviews. Just the one positive.

Go to the interview but make sure that you use your questions at the end to explore culture. e.g.

Ask the panel what they enjoy about working there
Ask what is the working culture like, can they describe it
Ask what they think the top challenges are currently facing the business

I would cancel and not go to the interview, money does not buy happiness.

Its up to you OP, good luck with this.

You clearly don't want to go, so don't. I would be put off too. Just politely decline.

ACynicalDad · 22/03/2023 16:37

If you are someone who is doing 18month-2year stints to climb the ladder then it might be bearable, if you are someone who will be there 5 years I'd probably avoid.

LemonLion · 22/03/2023 16:37

I would cancel in that situ.

I would go. See it as a practice interview. If they offer you the job you don’t have to accept it.
