I don't think much of Gwyneth Paltrow's barrister in court, he bumbles all over the place.

Have you heard his presentation? For the money she's paying for representation, I'd expect someone much more slick and professional. Tell me IBU.. 😅

Tbh I’m surprised this even made it to court. On the surface it seems like a poor strategy by Paltrow not to settle for a couple of hundred thousand dollars, given her huge wealth and her ‘wellness’ reputation to protect.

She cannot come out of this well, and the other guy bringing the action wants what in the US appears to be a fairly reasonable amount.

And now Paltrow is stuck in court for a week, being beamed around the world, potentially looking like a privileged and uncaring celeb who hurts people and doesn’t much care.

So yeah, I think her lawyers are odd. And the courtroom lawyer and Paltrow are acting like she’s there to handle a parking ticket.

He’s not a barrister is he. This is a uk title.

As she denies it, I’m wondering if there’s more to be heard about what happened. Otherwise I agree, she should have settled.

@Advancedpie have you never watched Columbo??? Beware the bumbling idiots for they are mighty clever 😜

I haven't read much about it but I think there was a witness saying she is at fault? Children testifying as well?

PuttingDownRoots · 22/03/2023 08:53

The summary I read was GP says she was turning around to look at her child and man crashed into her.
He says that he was skiing and she crashed into him.

If she wasn't looking where she was going, how does she know he crashed into her?

Chickenly · 22/03/2023 09:15

Firstly, he’s not a barrister.

Secondly, this is essentially the inverse of “all fur coat and no knickers”. He was President of the Utah State Bar, he earned the highest rating by Martindale-Hubbell, he’s one of only five “Super Lawyers” in his field. He was Harry S. Truman scholar and a William H. Leary scholar… whether you think his style is good or not, the man has a hell of a lot of substance. He’s the best money can buy and that’s why she’s using him.

Thirdly, jurors often find a very slick lawyer to be quite unlikeable and intimidating, especially when representing the side of a dispute that is more powerful (in this case, the party who is rich and famous). A very smoothly rehearsed lawyer would likely work against her interests here.

Because if you hit someone then the collision is the direction you’re moving in. If they hit you then the collision is the direction they were moving in. You don’t need to be looking to know whether you were hit or if you hit someone else. You can feel it. The only time that isn’t the case is if the two people are going perfectly straight into each other, which isn’t possible with skiing because it’s a downhill sport.

The case isn't sitting well with me. The Columbo lawyer waving a dollar note is just showmanship. She should have made this go away. Instead of paying her expensive team, she should have made a no liability admitted settlement out of court and had the accuser sign an nda and a closure agreement. I know its probably the principle she is fighting, but in the scheme of things he isn't asking for a lot of money.

And all her fidgeting and shifting about in her seat in court isn’t a good look at all for a ‘wellness’ promoter. She looks the opposite of composed and well.

Strange decision not to settle.
