How do you relax after work especially if you work from home?

After a full on day at work how do you switch off and relax? Especially if you work at home? Work is very busy at the moment and I can feel myself struggling to relax.

A walk, sometimes for shopping, sometimes just for the fresh air, the ponds nearby, view nature.

Soontobemumof2x · 21/03/2023 18:15

Dont relax until LO is in bed….. so at 7pm i sprawl out on the couch after a nice hot shower and do my skin care and just chill!

As soon as I finish, I sit in silence for half an hour with a hot cup of tea (well, not exactly silence but I sit by myself, don’t scroll my phone and just process my thoughts) Then I crack on with the rest of my evening but it’s my little break, rather than moving straight from my paid work into my unpaid mum/wife/house work.

I bet this! I'm now WFH (mostly), the commute although irritating was "time to process thoughts".

I'm loving some of these ideas though.

I work full time from home but have a preschooler; So after I finish I feed her, play with her, give her a bath, put her to bed.

Oysterbabe · 21/03/2023 18:27

Trash TV and crochet.

Echobelly · 21/03/2023 18:31

When WFH I always read for 10-20 mins before and after doing work, that bookends my day like a commute and allows me to decompress.

Naimee87 · 21/03/2023 18:34

Walk our little doggy (draaag DS along if he is home and i feel like company as he is a HUGE chatterbox.) 😁 Then change into comfy clothes and see what‘s on tv or if DS wants to play a game. Then i look for chocolate. I used to be exciting but the thought of an invite out after work or having to leave my house for anything other than a countryside walk just terrifies me. 😂

CheersForThatEh · 21/03/2023 18:35

Pack work away as much as I can and leave that room, then mix of...an engaging phone game that I have to concentrate on, a hot hot shower, a walk, pjs, exercise in summer, a drink and a work chat before mentally banning it.

Schmutter · 21/03/2023 18:36

Go to the gym or take a really long bath.

Stayingstrongish · 21/03/2023 18:39

I have a relaxing walk up a hill to collect one child and then down hill the other direction to collect the other 😅

The half the week I don’t pick up the kids, I flop on the bed and have a beer, watch tv, go to yoga class or cuddle up with my boyfriend. When it’s warm enough I’ll sit out in the garden and read a book

Aily17 · 21/03/2023 18:40

I listen to music and I go for a long walk after I finish work. At least three times a week.

PotKettel · 21/03/2023 18:41

Turn off laptop and focus on kids and dinner. Try not to multitask in the evening; either I’m working or I’m not

ClassicLib · 21/03/2023 18:41

As often as possible, I try to get out of the house after work. I either go for a walk, go to the gym or the supermarket. I sometimes get a coffee & chill out for a bit at the cafe.

monsterradeliciosa · 21/03/2023 18:44

A few methods

We go visit someone
Have a drink and chill
Movie night
Reading for an hour or so
Go to the park, especially now it's summer

Dyslexicwonder · 21/03/2023 18:48

Go and get Dd from the station, park round the park or go to the shops. Then home and into cooking. WOTH twice a week usually.

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 21/03/2023 18:49

I like to go to the end of my garden, look up to the sky and scream as loudly as I can for around 30 seconds before coming inside and cooking dinner.

It's quite helpful for me but the neighbours have complained.

MrsPinkCock · 21/03/2023 18:49

I find routine helps. So pack away the laptop at the end of the day, then walk the dog so I get out of the house in lieu of a commute.

Then dinner, shower, pyjamas, and either watch TV or play games.

And wine

About to go for a walk along the Thames with my dog.
Will either drop into Covent Garden for supper or pick up a takeaway

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 21/03/2023 18:53

Are you a billionaire?

hamstersarse · 21/03/2023 18:54

I do exercise.
walk, run, tennis and really looking forward to the light nights so can go for a bike ride

maddy68 · 21/03/2023 18:54

Take a walk to town. (I live near the sea ). Breathe in the freah air

LisaD1 · 21/03/2023 18:57

I almost had a breakdown last year as I was so absorbed by work. I then moved jobs and made changes that I have stuck to. I turn off no later than 5.30, usually at 5 then I go to bring my horses in and make dinner before settling down on the sofa to watch something with DH, I turn all work comms off. I also go to a slimming club once a week and have joined a gym so do a class twice a week. I sleep so much better now, used to survive on about 4 hours a night, I’m now at least 7.

Coffeepot72 · 21/03/2023 19:00

shut down my laptop, tidy my desk, then leave my office (making sure I close the door behind me). My ‘office’ was formerly the 4th bedroom
