I do nursery supply work and have 2 chronic diseases, Ulcerative colitis and rheumatoid arthritis.
I have always been honest about this and am more reliable and consistent then the other workers. Yet I do struggle with 8-6 shifts so when the smaller shifts come in, I take them. Today there was a message on our group chat saying that we all should be working full days and that it's wrong that we are taking smaller shifts. Just feels like it's a dig at me and again, makes me feel inadequate.
Aibu to be upset about this?

I'd ignore it. Supply work is up to you what you take and if the short shifts work for your illness then that's all there is to it.

By all means reply separately to your boss and remind them that you struggle with full days.

SleepingStandingUp · 21/03/2023 13:42

Who is the group made up of? If its nursery supply I assume you're moving around nurseries so it's not your colleagues or employers?

Either ignore, leave or rey along lines of "well we all need to do what we need to do" and leave it

GalileoHumpkins · 21/03/2023 13:42

If shorter shifts are available how is it wrong to take them? Surely as a supply worker, you cover when you're needed?

leafygarden · 21/03/2023 13:43

I have RA and can only do short shifts (nurse). Long days are a killer.

your boss should be giving you short shifts.

Nimbostratus100 · 21/03/2023 13:43

ignore, the message is not relevant to you, is it

LilacRain12 · 21/03/2023 13:56

He is the agency boss so he gives out the shifts.
He seems to conveniently forget that I have these diseases or more to the point, does not care. I don't think I should have to keep reminding him.
He gets more money the longer the shift we do. Which is what it's all about, money.
I just feel that I was included in it and it's irritated me. I do what I can but people just don't seem to understand these diseases or believe that someone my age (30's) can actually have RA.
I guess I will ignore it now but if it comes up again, I will say something as it isn't fair.

Surely he is breaking disability discrimination laws if he is "forgetting" or ignoring you have these conditions.

LilacRain12 · 21/03/2023 14:09

Personally I have learnt that many companies are not really disability friendly. They just say they are.
It's not on but be obviously feels quite safe in what he is doing as I have limited rights as a agency worker. They always try it on. It's zero hour contract but they say we have to work every week without fail also. Always throwing around threats.

Agency workers have very few rights
