Not really a birthday party

jgw1 · 21/03/2023 13:27

Am I being unreasonable to think that if my birthday party didn't have cake and no one sang Happy Birthday it is not really a party at all?

What was the entertainment?

There was a clown.

There was a clown

I think that was James O'Brien this morning trying to make out Johnson was drunk. Pathetic 'impersonation' from O'Brien in my opinion.

Time40 · 21/03/2023 15:08

If you are talking about Boris Johnson then just bloody say so rather than being cryptic and getting answers from peoplpe genuinely trying to help

Oh, come on. The OP has a sense of humour, and is just trying to have a bit of fun.

Is 'having fun' allowed? I was 'disciplined' by Mumsnet HQ for seemingly having fun on a previous birthday cake related thread. Sometimes 'rules' can be confusing.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 21/03/2023 15:28

Are you 4? I would expect a cake and singing of happy birthday at a young child’s birthday but not necessarily after the age of about 8.

even at a young child’s party it could still be a party without but I could see why they might not think so and it would be unusual

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 21/03/2023 15:29

You really want people to sing 'Happy Birthday' to you at age 56!?

There were two clowns at the party, I must have missed one.

Yes, it is the least they can do. It raises everyones morale.

I thought it was very obviously about Johnson.

Especially as I doubt there is any other grown adult in the universe that could say the same about a party and ask the same questions 🤣

you have very little in the way of a sense of humour @HilaryBriss especially given that your user name is a League of Gentleman character!

Rules confusing? Even when you designed them and communicated them on a regular basis?

DuncinToffee · 21/03/2023 16:02

What if you attended for a short time and only had an orange juice?

Very confusing. All through my life I have a rule of blaming someone else (often a woman) for my shortcomings, and now the mean and nasty people are blaming me for what happened in the office I was in charge off. Not fair.

Rules confusing?

Indeed - very confusing. I was warned that I wasn't allowed to post about Johnson's 'birthday party' in a lighthearted way because some posters were 'not having fun'. But apparently it's ok to post about Johnson's 'birthday party' in a lighthearted way as long as it's clear you are posting from an 'anti-Boris' viewpoint - in which case that is regarded as 'fun'.

Clavinova · 21/03/2023 21:35

Although - Johnson attended a primary school on his birthday in June 2020. A number of the teaching staff and pupils sang 'happy birthday' (in the playground) and they presented Johnson with a large birthday cake which had been baked in the school's kitchen.

Might explain his tantrums I suppose.

Marina Hyde

Well I don't think much of Marina Hyde's article:
It's not as if Keir Starmer has a slender build - in fact, Starmer looks very overweight to me, with flushed cheeks to boot. Hyde talks about Johnson's £220,000 legal fees, but Labour's Mike Hill had £250,000 legal fees paid for last year. She claims that Johnson was 'outraged' that his defence dossier wasn’t 'rushed immediately into publication by the privileges committee' yesterday, but the privileges committee say they only received a 'final corrected version' this morning. Hyde then claims that 'last October’s fall of Liz Truss was the only time in his entire political career that Johnson returned home from holiday for a crisis'. She obviously missed the fact that Johnson was in Belfast on A-level results day in August 2020 - meeting with Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin, and he did have to abruptly cut short his holiday in August 2021 due to the Afghanistan crisis... etc...
