To ask about Faro airport?

I'm flying with my autistic child to faro airport. We are looking at the airport info to prepare him. We also may need to wait 90 min when we are there before our transfer arrives. Does anyone know if there's any cafes/ places to wait in the departure area. Or in arrival area? (Assuming we could go back in to arrivals) thanks

One of my favourite airports. Haven't been for a while, but there used to just be food stands rather than a cafe, plenty of seating though and always pretty quiet / not too crowded.

There's a bar/ pub new this year just outside the entrance

Yes there is. I agree with the poster above it’s also one of my favourite airports. If you can have a favourite one 😂

Newusernameaug · 20/03/2023 19:09

There’s a nice cafe just outside the main doors as you walk out

Have flown there several times but not for a few years, we have always opted to get a taxi from outside the airport for the transfer, is that worth considering rather than waiting around?

Got2besoon · 20/03/2023 19:23

Quite small but perfectly pleasant.

A big Paul and Costa cafe in arrivals.

Departures have several cafes/restaurants including another Costa, Burger King, Subway

Flew into this airport last September, it was awfully crowded, not enough seating, very hot inside and there did not seem to be any air conditioning. Also when arriving and departing we had to go up and downstairs several times. We were lucky when leaving as we flew with jet2 and they had plenty of desks open, easyjet had only 2 desks open and those people were queued out the door.

Possibly. We were trying to save money. Are the taxis reasonable?

Book a taxi before you go. You can save half!

TempName247 · 20/03/2023 21:37

Think the taxis from the rank were about €50 from Faro to Albufeira but that was a few years ago. They have Uber as well.

Mangolist · 20/03/2023 22:02

Definitely book a transfer before you go. We always use suntransfers. Also, I agree it's a very nice airport!

There is a Costa and another small cafe in arrivals. Depends on what day you arrive but on a Tuesday in August its definitely not busy! And there's a larger cafe type place outside of the main building.

Arrivals tends not to be too bad but departures can get very hectic. The check in queues vary but are dependent on who you fly with, BA and Jet2 tend to have much shorter lines. The queues move quickly for security and there is a fair amount of seating airside if you're there early. Plenty of options for food too.

We go every year and its definitely one of the more civilised airports!

A friend of mine was there recently and said the queue for passport control took 3 - 4 hours. This was for UK passports and on a Saturday.

KnottyKnitting · 20/03/2023 23:25

We came through there last week. It took over an hour to get through passport control- no electronic gates open- 3 booths for EU passengers ( no queues ) and 2 for around 400 non EU passengers ( who had arrived on 2 British flights) .

Later on that week there was a passport officials strike and people I know waited 4 hours to get through and those departing missed their flights.

We come through Faro a lot and it seems like the Portuguese are deliberately punishing the British for Brexit despite bringing a huge amount of revenue to the country through tourism!
