To think they won't do anything for a broken pinky?

I tripped and smacked my hand into a desk last Saturday and the next morning my little finger was still and painful. Only very slight swelling and no redness. 9/10 days later it's still painful. When I bend it and if I press on it.

Is there any point going to urgent care for an x ray? Even if it's broken there's not a great deal they can do is there? It's the top knuckle mainly, near the finger tip

Thank you, yes that makes a lot of sense. I will go tomorrow or Wednesday,

Glad to hear it. Think how much you use your fingers every day of your life! All those nerve endings! Dont downplay it. If you can't get any help at GPs etc and its still hurting see a Sports Physiotherapist.

Why would you not go and get it checked out? Broken fingers still bend.

I've broken my little finger twice. The first time I did it. It was bent at a 45 degree angle They straightened it and stuck it in a cast for a couple of days. I had to make a fist to check everything was still connected. I then had it in a traction splint and had hand therapy for three months. Second time I did it I broke a different bone and had it in a cast for three weeks with a couple of hand therapy visits.

I did all my exercises and I have a very wonky finger. I also have reduced grip in my right hand. One finger can affect all the other fingers.

I laugh when people come on and say, "it's only a broken finger". Er... yeah, and it can lead to permanent disability if you're not careful.

I didn’t go to A&E when I broke my pinky finger as I thought it was a trivial thing and probably just bruised/sprained.

The hand specialist that saw me two months later and confirmed it was broken laughed and said it’s really common that people leave it which is silly as it implies his job is also trivial.

Anyway it turns out I left it too late and have a permanently crooked pinky finger now. Definitely go get it x-rayed as soon as you can!

You need to get it checked. A broken little finger is more serious than a broken little toe.

Thanks all, I don't think I will be able to go tomorrow but I will definitely go on weds if still painful

My friend ended up having an operation and having her finger immobilised for months. I'd get it checked!
