Aibu to think the concept of resilience is often weaponised?

AIBU to think it’s an increasing phenomenon now where the concept of resilience is used to victim blame and psychologically bash people about. Autistic children cannot make it into school because school is not making adjustments and we parents are spoken to about developing their resilience.

As an employee, bullied at work, I was sent on a resilience course by the bully.

In a work context, I've often seen "resilience" quoted here when it's being used to mean "willingness to be shat upon repeatedly from a great height, and instead of complaining, to cheerfully open your mouth and ask for more".

Absolutely it has - as has the "be kind" mantra.

I find it infuriating.

Absolutely. Workplace “resilience” stuff is very sinister now. It allows the employer to turn a blind eye to bullying, harassment, stress, overwork and excessive hours because we can all cope with those things if we’re resilient, can’t we 😶

One of the stupidest training sessions I ever had to go on was “Building a resilient workforce”. They told us to basically hire people who are resilient, flexible, adaptable etc. and showed us how to spot those people. Some of us pointed out that we weren’t able to hire our own teams, we had become the manager of an existing team and can’t just fire everyone and hire new ones. They weren’t interested in any problems we had, all they could do was spout their mantras.
