Pictures (and cameras)

Like the fact you can take a picture or video of a certain things in that moment and then look at it forever is amazing to me - I'm not smart enough to know all the science behind it and it might not be all that simple but it's simple to take a photo or video but its genuinely so cool you can keep a snapshot of time.

What other things are they that are "simple" but amazing?

I wouldn’t say many of the above are Simple!

Cobwebs. So delicate, clever, beautiful and strong. HOW does a spider know what to spin?

Yes they are so pretty, I feel bad having to destroy them in my house sometimes but I leave the ones outside.

Water! In every glass you drink at least one molecule would’ve been drunk by a dinosaur

Growing a baby inside you.
Never gets old

i Mean, it does. It physically gets older. 😂

How women’s menstrual
cycle can go in to sync when they spend a lot of time together.

how pretty kiwi fruit look when you cut them in half

Ears, when I breastfed DD I'd just look at her ears and be amazed at the intricate folds designed to send sound waves down into the inner ear.

Being able to go inside historic buildings and touch the same walls, handrails, look out windows and walk on the same floors that people did hundreds of years ago.

Never gets old and blows my mind.

Yes!

It amazes me as well.
Not just stately homes or churches etc.

Just everyday homes. I've been to Beamish (and the one in Wales- which I always forget the name of)
What amazes me is the "normal" people houses and touching thier table that they touched 100s of years ago. Mind blown.

Popcorn - how it's form changes just like that.

InTheFutilityRoomEatingBiscuits · 19/03/2023 20:50

Baking. Chemistry, magic and calories, what’s not to like?

Softsoftsleep · 19/03/2023 20:55

Conception and what happens after that. Have you ever seen a video of what a sperms has to endure to get to the egg? It's a miracle any of us were conceived in the first place, and that's just the start of it. I wish we could have a little oven door to look in and see what's going on in there from conception to birth. I remember being pregnant and reading what my app was saying my baby was doing at 9 weeks. It said the baby had ears. This blew my mind for some reason!

AFrivolousDigression · 19/03/2023 20:56

Slime mould

minou123 · 19/03/2023 20:56

Cooking and baking is pretty amazing to me.

Something we kind of take for granted and seems simple.

CandleInTheStorm · 19/03/2023 20:59

Telephone. How your voice can travel to someone else's phone thousands of miles across the world in seconds at the same time as millions of other voices. I still can't get my head around it!

cakewitch · 19/03/2023 21:12

The way that a tiny old dried up corn kernel can be planted in the ground and watered a bit then become this huge 6 foot plant with a massive thick stem and giant green leaves and beautiful juicy corn cobs. Its pure magic.

JennyForeigner · 19/03/2023 21:18

Honestly, this sounds like a sappy answer but since I had a three year old every bloody thing.

Try to explain the stars. Insaaaane. Try to answer any question about the body or animals or how plants grow or we're made of or what dinosaurs are made of or why birds fly south for the winter. Mad. It's all mad and just so amazingly unlikely and implausible.

youshouldnthaveasked · 19/03/2023 21:24

That the light from some stars has taken so long to get to us they dies years ago but we are still seeing the light from it

ghostyslovesheets · 19/03/2023 21:27

Crisps - it's a potato - but thin, crispy and salty

Thelnebriati · 19/03/2023 21:29

Eyes, that the cells in your eyes are see through to let the light in.

ghostyslovesheets · 19/03/2023 21:29

also - more sensibly - atoms - Like you can't make or destroy them - they just are - they become new things - so I may be made up of bit of old dinosaur or something - reincarnation with science

(I may be thinking of something other than atoms - a less drunk person correct me - I've had Mother's Day present fizz)

Gymnopedie · 19/03/2023 21:30

Water. Such a simple molecule, essential to life, and does so much more besides.

LemonDrizzles · 19/03/2023 21:31

Rain
Electricity pylons

WellTidy · 19/03/2023 21:36

Emotion. How external things make you feel differently inside.

thatone · 19/03/2023 21:37

sleep - how great that we get a break from our thoughts and fruit - it's delicious and, on the whole, good for you.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 19/03/2023 21:37

Fruit?🤨

JMSA · 19/03/2023 21:40

There is so much out there that is both wonderful and amazing. I remember when my children were babies, the little cuts they got from their fingernails healed miraculously quickly. It was like magic!
