yes, they're showing love & kindness. They're also enjoying the delight on DD's face. It's natural to want to 'spoil' them and make them happy.
we didn't get so many in the '70's as things like that were still comparatively expensive, but I had a large wider family and remember there being quite a lot on the dining table. These days they're so cheap, it's an easy/cheap way to get big eyes & big smiles from grandchildren/nibs.
As a child I loved all the pretty wrappers & boxes! I also loved the eggs with the sweets inside them! I still buy myself a couple. This year one with smarties & one with chocolate buttons. They'll take me back to the pure delight I had as a child and it's worth every bloody carb to me to feel like that.
These days I'm guessing my parents, mainly my Dad, had a hand in seeing them off. But I didn't notice or care.
from being very little we had a sweetie jar, I suppose my Mum put what was left of my Nana's indulgences in there after I'd had what I wanted at the time. I can still remember the excitement if choosing 1. And I mean 1 sweetie, not one packet!!
I still keep chocolate/sweets until I fancy one. I have what I want & put the rest back in the cupboard
I think I have a very balanced outlook as an adult.
my Aunty (in her 60's) and my Great Aunt (in her 90's) always take sweets when they visit any children, they feel wrong turning up without in the same way they'd never turn up without a gift for someone if invited to their house.
but I know many parents get stressed out about kids & sweets, so I almost always take a small gift instead. Though being environmentally & clutter aware, that's getting harder & harder!! 🤦🏻♀️
I think eith close family you can be blunt. No more than one Easter Egg per SEASON, not visit!! IF they want to bring anything else, maybe an Easter Craft Kit (grom
pennies up, needn't be expensive) or if they knit crochet there's unlimited opportunity!!
but yes, they do it out if love & DD's/their pleasure. They don't do it to puss you off or to ruin DD's teeth/health (whatever you're worried about)
