To use charity bags for the used clothes I sell on Marketplace

So you know the sort of large plastic bags charities usually put in your letterbox. I am selling large quantities of my little girl's clothes in huge bundles each size and thinking of using those bags for the clothes when buyers come collect them. My rationale is:

  • they are big enough for my stuff
  • they (may) look better than a bin bag 😬
  • it's environmentally friendly, those bags will end up in the bin anyway cause they come with punched holes so don't have much use

But come to think about it, it might not be nice to sell clothes in those bags isn't it? What would you think if your purchased things come in one of those bags? Do you prefer a bin bag instead? Please dont tell me to use regular supermarket shopping bags cause I will need many of them for each bundle. Thanks in advance!

I'd prefer a bin bag. I think it might look like you've nabbed a load of clothes of peoples driveways and sold them on in the charity bags.

Use them.

I use them as bin liners as we no longer use them for charity collections due to unscrupulous tossers collecting the bags around where I live , thus depriving the actual charities.

It was an ongoing saga around where I live. Hardly anyone now, uses these bin bags for their original purpose.

I don't see any problem with it and they look better than bin bag.

Don't do that people will think you've pinched them

Cakeandslippers · 17/03/2023 19:46

I wouldn't even give it a second thought! I think you should use them rather than throwing them away and using something else.

Maybe use them inside out if you're bothered. I find it really annoying how much plastic waste is generated by those bags (we get at least 3 every week through our door).

Itsrudemeghan · 17/03/2023 19:50

I honestly would not care less

Sceptre86 · 17/03/2023 19:55

I agree with a previous poster, use it inside out if you are going to. That way people won't think you've pinched it off someone's drive.

Those bags are not very strong, at least the ones we get aren't, and the holes wouldn't help with rain etc. unless you completely cover the package in packing tape to make it waterproof.

I use them, inside out for charity shop donations of clean rags and label it, then put the bag of rags in the bottom of a black bag with the other donations on the top. They aren't much use for anything due to the holes.

I get about 4 of these free bags a week. I use them to take stuff to charity shops, as bin liners, anything, I just don't use them to put clothes in at end of my drive AS THEY ARE SCAMMERS, the clothes are sold to poor people, often in Eastern Europe, ripping them off. Keep the bags coming please and use them for whatever you want!

Thanks everyone for your opinions. Unfortunately I'm unable to use those bags as bin liners cause they come with holes so water will ooze out and stain and cause bad smells in our indoor bins. And they're too thin and too large for any daily/shopping use. I will go with the idea of turning them inside out for my clothes sale, how could I not think of that 😃 Buyers will come collect them at my door so rain wouldn't be a problem.

Thank you again lovely people!

I use them for all my Vinted sales. Several layers and parcel tape. All good. No one has ever mentioned it.
