To think that Mother's Day is a con?

Just that really. Don't get me wrong, it's lovely to get special gifts from the children and so on. But the idea that you get the day off is a joke. I am currently trying to cram in all the chores I would normally spend Sunday doing, along with all the usual stuff, so I can have the "day off". What I actually want is for someone to do those chores for me, that would be the real treat 😂

Unless you’re a single mum to young children, I don’t understand why you would do housework ahead of time.

Depending on age/circumstances, can’t your partner and/or children do your share of the housework on Sunday so you can relax?

This.

Just don't do what you'd normally do that day, relax and do whatever you want.

What's the worst that could happen?

If you are up to date with cleaning, it won't be dirty if it's not done on one day.

If you're not up to date with cleaning, it can wait another day/week/month.

If no-one is going to step up and cook, get a takeaway or a special Mothers Day supermarket meal deal.

I love Mother's Day. It doesn't have to be a huge fuss just do some special things which are simple and free/cheap. Nice to have a fun occasional and see my grown up DCs.

Well I had a text off my local beauty salon telling me I was booked in for a hydro facial (£120) I was just about to say wtaf I didn't book this! Then saw the ref was my dds name. So yes love iit.

Dss will be supermarket flowers and prosecco! Equally good 😂

It could be worse.. you could be in a two mum household. Who takes the break? 🤔

dutysuite · 16/03/2023 23:29

I hate mothers days, I hate the way it makes me feel.

smileladiesplease · 17/03/2023 00:42

Ah well my mum died last November so it's tough but I deserve it for me and so does every other mum.

GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 17/03/2023 00:43

A day off would be great! My mothers day will likely be just like any normal day, I’ll be up and off to work before my teenage son is out of bed and when I get home he’ll probably have left a load of mess for me to clean up like every other weekend that I work. He's generally not very thoughtful so I doubt he will have even got me so much as a card (my mum normally gets something for him to give me but she's on holiday this year), if I’m lucky he might offer to make me a brew! I’ll possibly end up treating us to a takeaway just so I don’t have to cook.

Robin233 · 17/03/2023 08:56

I used to draw my own Mother's Day card.
But ti answer your question just carry on as normal
All the kids have grown up and gone. It'd be nice if they remembered but I'm lucky to get 2out of 4.
That's fine - I know they love me :)

To be honest I think your general expectations of life are too low. You only get on day ‘off’ a year and even then you still do all the normal household chores, just on a different day? What chores are you cramming in today?

Teeheeeheee · 17/03/2023 09:25

Everything "day" is a con.

But Mother's day isn't sold as a day off though. You get a day off if you can (or make one).

Fairislefandango · 18/03/2023 19:30

Things are only a con if someone is tricking you. How are you being tricked?
