AIBU? or just inpatient?

Seriously. Why do people even list their stuff on there when they clearly can't be arsed to actually sell it?

I've recently changed jobs and I'll be working from home full time soon, so I need some new equipment. I saw a lovely second hand desk on Facebook last night. I noticed it had been on there for a while and there were a lot of comments asking if it was still available (no reply from the seller) so I thought it might have already gone. I messaged her to double check and asked her for the measurements or if she knew if it was small enough to fit in a car (I couldn't tell by the pictures) and she replied "yeah, should do" with no actual measurements. Helpful 🙄.

It's a 30 minute drive so I didn't want to risk driving all the way there if it wouldn't actually fit, so I arranged for a friend with a van to come with me instead. She wanted it gone by today and asked me what time I could come so we agreed 5pm. She was going to check if her partner would be home first (no idea why as I thought she would be home and why she agreed to the time in the first place Confused). This was at 2pm. I hadn't heard anything by 4:30 so I asked her if we could come as my friend needed to go somewhere else afterwards. She read my message and didn't reply. I've just messaged her now to say I can't wait any longer and she replied straight away with a thumbs up. No apology for keeping us hanging or messing us around.

Just why 🙄.
I actually wanted the desk and she even said she wanted to get rid of it by today, but then couldn't be arsed to arrange a time for us to collect. It's not exactly difficult, right?
I've sold tons of stuff on Facebook and always tried to be flexible and accommodating, because I want the stuff out of my way and the money!

I've sold a few bits on FB market place over the last few weeks. It. It can be bloody annoying. The trick is to only give pick up times when I know I'm going to be in for the day so it doesn't matter if the buyer shows or not and I don't get as annoyed when they don't come. And also to price things on the cheaper side or else they don't really go.
I've made about £150 selling stuff this week which is less than what it was worth probably, but obviously more than it was worth sitting around cluttering up my garage so I'm taking it as a win.

I don’t like fb marketplace either for the absolute cheek of some people!

I was trying to sell a tv once and I was getting messages from people who lived hundreds of miles away, offering half of what I asked for, stating they’d be there that day with the cash! Wtf!

There are some decent people on there though. Did eventually sell to a lovely lady, who never even bartered, just sent her son with the cash to collect.

The most random one was when I was selling some of DS’s barely worn tops, asking for something like £5 for a few items. Man messaged me stating he was a bus driver and would I meet him with the clothes at one of his stops!! He got pretty shitty with me when I said no and I eventually told him that someone else was interested who could actually collect from my house (they weren’t, I just wanted him to piss off). He had a rant stating he had offered first and I was in the wrong! It’s not like a bid on bloody eBay! I took them off marketplace and gave them to charity in the end, not worth the mither for a fiver!

I think MN are missing a trick here. There’s always threads complaining of this, and MN seem to all agree so aren’t the eejits messing people around. MN should set up a MNettersMarketPlace where we could all pass on our junk to normal people who can communicate with each other 😂

I had somebody arrange a time to collect something every day for a week but repeatedly didn’t show. Then someone else ask if I would deliver to local town because getting her car out would be environmentally detrimental, apparently getting mine out to drive to said town wouldn’t? Then lots of CF asking to reduce price when already only cheap! 😂 I gave up.

i actually sold something last year. It’s heavy and the buyer needed to come pick it up. He never has and he’s paid! He kept saying he was coming to get it and then didn’t turn up. We chased him a few times. We’re just going to give it a neighbour.

Our only problem has been people not turning up to collect.

I generally like it and have had some really good bargains on there recently, mostly clothes. But I've had a few people interested in my Shark vacuum and one guy said he'd come on Fri evening but didn't. I messaged him on Sat and he said he was ill and to let it go to someone else. Would have appreciated him letting me know this the night before. He also kept messaging stuff like "price?" "Location?" Even though it said it all in the description

I've just told someone who had paid for a sofa and not collected it on time they could pick it up from the end of my road if not here in an hour.

I need the sofa out of here..

Surprisingly they turned up after 15 mins
