Not sure what to think about this.

I have PMDD and last week it triggered a mental health crisis. I had to take a few days off and seek medical attention. Normally I work through it but it was not something possible this month. It was my first time in a year in the role where I have had to take time off due to it.

So anyway I’ve returned to work and it emerges that my boss has told my whole team (9 people) that I had a nervous breakdown. I can’t help feeling that this is invading my privacy? Not sure if I’m overreacting here but I already feel quite vulnerable due to last week and now I feel embarrassed that all my team know from a third party about my mental health issues.

Do you have a HR department? I would be going straight there to complain about your manager giving it your information like that! ShockI can't imagine that knowing they have done so is helping your well-being Flowers

ChopSuey2 · 16/03/2023 14:46

Not only was it completely inappropriate to share your medical information with your team, but the language used was insensitive and outdated.

OhDeniseReally · 16/03/2023 14:47

Your boss is hugely U. I would go straight to HR. He has no business telling people about your reason for being off work.

SBHon · 16/03/2023 15:02

You’re not overreacting. I’d be furious, and feel so vulnerable and exposed. He’s basically told them your private medical information.

complain to HR

Fucking hell that's terrible!

I had a manger do similar to me, I asked her if I could nip out to a GP appointment because I had UTI symptoms.

Before I left, I went into the staff room and she said "Me and Emma have been talking, and we think you have thrush."

What. The. FUCK?!

I could not believe my ears and eyes. I left that job quick smart.
(and since when is pissing blood a symptom of thrush - not that I discussed my symptoms!)

Anyway, after a manger has done that, you can never trust them again.
When you are feeling stronger I'd be looking elsewhere for work.

I have PMDD, it's awful. I take escitalopram
which is a life changer

Thank you for your advice everyone. I have a HR meeting tomorrow anyway regarding being off so I’m going to mention it.

He’s also claimed some of my sales for his own commission so with both of these incidents together, I think it’s time to polish up my CV and get my ducks in a row.
