To find stuff like this so very hard?

I will probably get a kicking here but am waiting for DVLA to open to try to sort this.

So example - try to log in to see my drivers licence details. Can’t. DH insists I must have my NI no wrong, I think I’m right, I try to log into a payslip at work to check, I can’t. So DVLA apparently don’t have my correct details and I can’t log in anywhere to check.

It is so exasperating. Like we need documents for a solicitor and I can’t find what I need as everything is in different names.

I know I need to sort this. It just doesn’t seem to register in my mind until I need it to and then it’s too late.

So much anguish is caused by losing your phone, especially if you have Apple Pay on there as well and have to cancel your card.

It's good to imagine what you would need to access if you didn't have your phone. So many log-ins require sending a code to your phone 😑

I've been through this three times in the last 14 months, you'd think I'd be a pro at this time now but nope.

I also have a Where Stuff Is spreadsheet for rarely used items and stuff stored in the loft.

I'll get me anorak Grin

That you, DH? 🤭

I was trying to log into my student loans thing the other day and you have to put in your secret answer. Sadly it does not tell you what the secret question is and staff on the phone can't see it either Confused it's my student loans overpayment not fucking nuclear codes, just ask me the secret question!

At least you have a drivers licence. I feel for the people who don't have one or a passport. You're essentially a non entity.
I've recently changed jobs. I've been asked for 12 year old payslip!

This I why I had Dd apply for a provisional license she isn't learning to drive but she's 18 and needs it for proving her age in pubs or wherever.

Use a password manager. I use bitwarden. It's free and you only need one password (a long one, more of a phrase). It generates tough passwords for you then autofills them and you can also add usernames and notes with secret words etc. I have no idea how people manage without one.

You also need a folder where you keep official stuff.

Largeflaskoftea · 16/03/2023 10:48

Yep, it’s a bloody pain. I have a few apps that ask for a memorable word without any hint. Christ, that could be anything!!

I always ask for paper copies of bills/insurances so at least I’ve got a hard copy (which I do file in a folder). I hate this reliance on technology for everything - except when it suits me!!

Hotvimto3 · 16/03/2023 10:50

Im like this. I have ADHD and CPSD. I cant see the bloody wood for the trees. Its completely overwhelming

BaroldBalonz · 16/03/2023 11:20

I have most of my passwords written in a little address book apart from the bank ones. I don't know why I've never thought to add passport, NI, NHS numbers to it - going to do it now.

I've recently changed laptops which was so much easier than last time as google has a lot of pointless passwords saved. I class things such as the mumsnet password as pointless as no great damage could be done with it. I'm sure a thousand posters will now tell me that you can log onto my life through mumsnet and steal my house. Just going to lock my doors and windows.

I write stuff down but then as I often lose stuff I encode it. Problem is sometimes codes don't make sense 6months down line. I had a work key for a cupboard in Alliston Gardens. Didn't wanna put that on key fob. 6 months later I'm baffled why I have a key labelled Ali G!

jumperoozles · 17/03/2023 07:04

Also memorise your NI number! You get asked if so much it’s so much quicker if you just know it.

Arduouslife · 17/03/2023 07:05

I do know it!

It's so frustrating . By 11 today I was ready to cry.
I tried to amend online shop delivery time. Wouldn't let me . Took ages but its now sorted.
I then tried to pay an organisation on line. It wouldn't work. I called their helpline but was repeatedly told my reference number was incorrect ( it wasnt) .After going through the phone options twice I chose " speak to an operator " A very nice man replied straight away. He sounded as surprised as me and asked how I had got through to his internal office number . I have no idea as I called the helpline and chosen one of the options. I tgen thought I would make a payment to a friend who had collected some shopping for me but banking app said it couldn't log me on. Turns out the app is down . Thank goodness its not just me. I'm now going to do all the things I had planned to do with all the time that technology has saved me today.

jumperoozles · 17/03/2023 14:24

Brill :) sorry was just trying to think of tips to help

Randobelia · 17/03/2023 14:31

Paid another £30 to current car insurer today rather than go through all the absolute faff and fuck about getting quotes etc. Logged in, two clicks, paid, done. Worth it.

Randobelia · 17/03/2023 14:32

As in this year's quote was £30 more than what I paid last year. Usually I look around for better deals etc but could not be fucked today.

bigbluebus · 17/03/2023 14:43

I've got a whole filing cabinet devoted to this stuff. I can run upstairs, unlock the cabinet and lay my hands on the document needed quicker than I can log on my laptop.
Computers are not always the best solution.
