AIBU (or possibly just bonkers) to fancy a wild (ish) weekend away 10-14 days before due date?

Have name changed. That's it really - I've said I can't make this particular do, but now dithering...

This is my 3rd dc - 2nd was induced early (10 days) due to high bp/threatened pre-eclampsia - I also had high bp with dc1, but went 3 days over due date. Both times I was in & out of hospital throughout the last month of pg.

So far this time (36 weeks), the bp's behaving itself, which is making me wonder if I could get away with attending after all.

We'd be 200 miles from home, staying in a hotel. It's a one off event. ALL my mates will be there , including several who are travelling considerable distances & whom I get to see once in a blue moon.

Bonkers? Obviously if I end up on the daily bp monitoring treadmill again, it'd be out of the question, but if not, would I be totally unreasonable to arrange to attend after all?

Go go go

What wd happen to your other children if labour started and you had to go to hosp 200 miles from home? And the last week or two can be tough going, physically really tiring. Would you actually enjoy it? Cd they come to you if they're all travelling?

PippiCalzelunghe · 11/02/2008 21:32

go go go. you'll be fine in a different hospital if needs be. it'll be fun. don't you remember how hard it will be to have fun for a few weeks after the birth?
I am telling you this because I am 31 weeks and will be going to italy in at 34 and I am trying to plan as many fun and going out thing as I can before I have to give myself over once again. Am I the voice of doom...?

motherfunk yes apparently I can fly till the end of week 36 with doct certificate. should be well back by then though. why? don't tell me that there could affect the pg or baby pls...

cabinfever · 11/02/2008 21:42

Valid point mrschop! The other two would be with their grandma (my MIL), which is our usual arrangement if we're away overnight.

If I ended up in labour 200 miles from home, I'd hope to be out with the new baby within 24 hours - on both previous occasions I've gone home same day. (Admittedly not with a 200 mile drive to look forward to!)

As for physically tiring, yeah, I know. It's just one of those things that I know if I don't go, I will be sat at home sulking. With absolutely nary a contraction. If otoh I throw caution to the winds, sod's law my waters will break the minute I get there!

Definitely not a moveable event, so I either go or I don't...

(Thanks to motherfunk & shatteredmumsrus for the encouragement btw! )

Oh I dunno...dither, dither...

Go! Any doctors or midwives among your friends? Take your notes with you, and you have all bases covered.

ahhh pippi breathes again!.

oh no I checked everywhere for last pg and this time I went to airline website and called them as well. no way i'd like to be stuck without dh even if I am sure the care will be okay.

that must have been scary though...
