Lots of analysis on the bbc news app.

Dinosaurpoopy · 15/03/2023 15:15

How old is your child? Do you need term time or full time? Then I can help

QforCucumber · 15/03/2023 15:15

Do you claim the tax free childcare? are you eligible for the current 3 year old funding or the current 15 hours at 2 year old?

goldierocks · 15/03/2023 15:17

Here is a link to the budget summary from The Times.

Frustratedmama22 · 15/03/2023 15:17

I claim the tax free yes, I’m not eligible for the funding no. My child will be two in April. Think I’m just upset that all the help will come once my child is old enough for the 30 free hours anyway

My understanding is that all children born after Dec 2024 will be entitled to 30 hours free from the moment they turn 9 months. If that’s helpful.

Children born in March 2021 onwards will get 15 free hours from April 2024.

All children aged 9 months or older will get 15 hours from September 2024.

Dinosaurpoopy · 15/03/2023 15:20

So April 2024 you'll get 15 hours free which will be the equivalent to 1 free day a week (full time)

Then 1st September you're entitlement to the 30 hours kicks in anyway which will be 2 free days a week (full time)

Some people get to access things. Some people don't. It's just the way it works.

Nobody with a child under 3 currently in childcare will see any changes, as by the time this funding comes into place they’ll be over 3 anyway with 30hrs.

Worth mentioning that also by September 2025 it might not be the same government so nobody will hold them to this promise.

Zebedee55 · 15/03/2023 15:30

'Jeremy Hunt announced an extension of 30 hours of free childcare to one and two-year-olds in England. But the plan is not being implemented immediately.

Here are the key dates:

Working parents of two-year-olds will be able to access 15 hours of free care from April 2024

From September 2024 hours will be extended to all children from 9 months upwards.

And from September 2025 every single working parent of under-fives will have access to 30 hours free childcare per week.

The number of kids per staff member in nurseries will rise from four to five, but the changes will be optional. nurseries will receive more funding

parents on Universal Credit will have childcare costs paid by the government up front

the maximum amount families on Universal Credit can claim for childcare will be increased by hundreds of pounds

people who take a childminder job will receive £600 while agency workers who take a childminder job will receive £1,200 as part of a pilot scheme

schools will receive more funding to provide wraparound childcare

30 hours free childcare will be extended to parents with children aged between nine months and two years old

Mr Hunt announced some parents with children aged nine months to two-years-old will receive free childcare.

But the help will only be offered to households where all adults are working at least 16 hours per week."

QforCucumber · 15/03/2023 15:50

@Frustratedmama22 yeah ours are 7 and almost 3 so won't qualify for any of it either - when DS1 gets his 30 hours in September we will have paid out around £60k in FT childcare fees over the last few years, but we had them knowing this would be the case so can't allow new changes to make a difference in that.

Not quite true, 2 year olds will receive 15 hours from next April. So anyone with a 1 year old will benefit from this before the full 30 hours.

TinySaltLick · 15/03/2023 16:09

Worth remembering that the tories are likely to not be in the power by the time most of this would kick in so I would take it with a pinch of salt as things will probably change

GoodChat · 15/03/2023 16:21

The breakdown is here www.gov.uk/government/news/chancellor-unveils-a-budget-for-growth

Sunnybunny87 · 27/08/2023 09:33

I’ve been struggling to find this information: under the current rules, parents do not receive any childcare benefits if either is earning more than 100k adjusted income. Will this ALSO apply to the new budget due to come into place as of 2024 or is the childcare benefit universal for all children, regardless of their parents’ income?
