Does anyone else find these terms irritating?

Other unrelated terms/phrases/words I find really annoying:

”The community”
”My journey”
”Mental health”
”Empowering/empower/empowered”

I’ve heard all of these this morning.

@LaMarschallin I thought exactly the same about the “are you broken?” comment. I ignored it as I often find those that go on about “being kind” etc are the most unnecessarily over-the-top vicious.

@follyfoot37 do the responses surprise you as much as they do me?? No such thing as lighthearted threads?

I am gobsmacked by this site on a daily basis!
Consequently, I worry about what the adults of the future the responders are raising; they will certainly be people who think; it's ok break the law - let's park on a double yellow line or outside school (because 'it's just for 2 minutes'), it's ok to lie to school ('they were poorly on the last four days of term [but actually we were on holiday]), or it's ok to expect everyone to do what you want and work around you because 'kids'

It's not difficult; the OP raised the point about overused, hakneyed phrases that people are bandying about.
Saying 'I have MH' is meaningless, as is 'I have blood pressue'. We all have mh and bp. Each is true, but contaxt or descriptorscare required. However, very few people use the latter, whereas the world and his aunty are over-using 'mh' and expecting everyone to understand that their mh (which everyone has) is an issue
No- one is just fed-up or a bit down. Normaal emotions are being turned into drama's. Like men never having a col, always flu

No one is saying “I have mental health” though. And the OP (and subsequent people) didn’t raise an issue with the phrase “I have mental health”, they raised an issue with the phrase “mental health”.

Tummy is a delightful word, I shall definitely continue to use it.

No opinion on the ones the OP posted other than journey being overused.

I object on threads about the term 'big birthday' for an age ending in 0. Something used to get you to spend money excessively.

'Hard working families'. As if high earners didn't work 60 plus hour weeks in incredibly stressful jobs, having put in years to get there.

Oh I've been needing a thread like this.

"being my authentic self"

Seems to be the phrase of the day and it's fucking horrible.

Phrases like this always remind me of Peter Capaldi's character in The Thick of It, a cliche for every occasion and also a Deputy Head who would come out with the most stupid things, Let's put this in the toaster and see what pops up!
