To be annoyed that 30 h free childcare...

Allgoodusernamesweretaken · 15/03/2023 10:19

...starts the whole term AFTER the child hits 3 yo. My son missed the deadline for next term by 5 days, and so we have to wait until September to be able to access the 30 free hours. Parents of a kid born 5 days before will get the 30 free hours in April, May, June, July and August, although they will go to school at the same time...
Just a mnini rant, I thought it was the following month and just realised it,s the whole 5 extra months of massive payments for the nursery.

Nursery Staff have to pay for their children too.
Sorry I never had anything to do with the administration. So sorry I make no sense.

I am however a fully qualified Nursery Nurse, NNEB Diploma.

Perhaps you should speak to your local MP. I am afraid if you have kids you do keep paying. I have four. Wait until you help at Uni if yours go. I spent more than half my wages on DD just on her rent because she went down south!

Fifi0000 · 15/03/2023 14:50

I always thought that my DD was July born my nephew is September born so started school a year later and they had to pay an extra year of nursery fees. I was only paying breakfast and after school club which was a lot cheaper.

WishIdDoneItYearsAgo · 15/03/2023 14:51

It’s from the term after they’re 3 until the term after they’re 5. We pay for school and it meant that the first year’s fees for YR were very reduced as DD is May baby so we got the funding until she started Y1 i.e the term after she turned 5. My boys are autumn born so only got help until Christmas of YR.

When does today’s announcement kick in? That may help.

Yep, and your pension will come to you in exactly the same way. It's called the circle of life

What will happen when everyone gives up work to look after their children? Will they claim benefits? What will we do with all the vacant jobs such as doctors, nurses, carers etc?

I'm 52 so no benefit in this for me whatsoever but I can see why families need this support

tiantian1005 · 15/03/2023 14:52

Sorry to post here but could someone help with my question - if parent earns more than 100K, does the child still get 15 hours free childcare or nothing at all?

Tanith · 15/03/2023 14:56

Every child is entitled to 15 hours nursery education from the term after their 3rd birthday. The childcare element is an additional 15 hours and is not available to all.

WishIdDoneItYearsAgo · 15/03/2023 14:57

Also, those with September babies are looking at parents of August babies thinking how unfair it is that they need to pay nursery fees for another entire year!!!

adriftinadenofvipers · 15/03/2023 14:58

I'm pissed off that I never got any free childcare, ever!!!!

WeWereInParis · 15/03/2023 15:01

Bunnycat101 · 15/03/2023 10:35

And also… there is a lot of strategic annual leave for nursery leavers before school starts. You can save yourself a fortune if you can finish nursery in mid august rather than taking leave early in the summer and running through to September.

Can I ask why? We have a DD starting school in September, what's the benefit of taking her out of nursery a week earlier? Or do you just mean it saves a week of fees?

tiantian1005 · 15/03/2023 15:02

Also:
Every child is entitled to 15 hours nursery education from the term after their 3rd birthday.

Does the new policy extend these 15 hours for every child regardless of family income to 1 and 2 years old as well? i am SO excited to find I am entitled to any benefits as never expected ANY at all.

BertieBotts · 15/03/2023 15:05

It's historical, it's because it originated from access to pre-school as education.

It would make more sense for it to be calculated monthly nowadays.

Happychappy12345 · 15/03/2023 15:13

What do you mean? Can someone provide more details pls?

Babooshka1990 · 15/03/2023 15:19

I cried when I looked at the schedule. We
are really going to struggle so much and possibly go into debt for nursery fees. But if we had him a year later it would be free? Just gutted for all of us who wont benefit it is so unfair

twoandcooplease · 15/03/2023 15:30

That's a bit much you write like you will get nothing but you will still benefit partially. Not fairly but partially

mumwon · 15/03/2023 15:31

hasn't there been a change in how many children per carer aka 4 to one or 5 to 1 in Scotland. That is NOT an improvement

CremeEggThief · 15/03/2023 15:31

YABU.
Why are you only thinking of yourself?

Think of the greater good. Honestly!

Believe you get bugger all in that case. Maybe get that parent to put the extra into a pension.

Monster80 · 15/03/2023 15:45

Would you rather that childcare costs continued to cripple most families? We’ve missed out too (DC started school in September), but I’m still pleased that the matter has been addressed for others.

Nothing if you’re on over £100k
Surely you don’t need help with childcare fees on that salary?

CremeEggThief · 15/03/2023 15:52

Exactly, Monster. This is how everyone should see this situation instead of feeling hard done by because they missed out!

LoveBluey · 15/03/2023 15:57

I hear you - two kids with birthdays in the first week of April so twice we'll have to wait until September for funding. And then the budget help announced today (which I think is long overdue by the way) kicks in fully from sept 2025, just as my youngest starts school and it makes no difference to me.
Pleased they've done it at last but yes a bit pissed off to have missed out.

I am thinking of the good of all parents in the same situation, thousands every year.

Where is the greater good in all of us being out of pocket?

I'd rather all of us in the same situation had the same access to government help, not 5 months less of it because kids were born a week or month too late.
I feel sorry for people who got no help at all (although 30 free hours have been for a bit), but I dont feel jealous of people who will get more help in future. Some people here are really pissed off that they didn't get support in the past so no one else should have in future it seems.

You are totally missing the point as it has nothing to do with the nursery staff (who are also missing out if their kids are born after the cut-off). I am not criticising nurseries. I am criticising the legislature.
It has to do with the project being put out there but not paying all parents equally, so some save thousands more depending on the child's dob.

I am not questioning that, you are by underlining how much you paid into the system and how you did it all yourself. So actually me being able to afford having kids is helping you being able to get your pension in future.
