Toilet separate to the bathroom

I’m downsizing to a 2 bedroom now it’s just me and one child left.
Every property I have viewed so far has a bathroom with a separate toilet. Ok, useful if someone is in the shower. But, why is the sink in the bathroom and not the toilet room?
So you do your business and leave the toilet room to go into the bath/shower room to wash your hands. Or to the kitchen if someone is using the shower.
Is this a normal set up or am I just being ott in thinking it’s very unhygienic?

Ours were on different floors growing up but yes it we used the kitchen sink. Our infants school had outside toilets but no sinks, however we had a cloakroom with lots of sinks where we washed hands after playtime

My friend put in a downstairs cloakroom but couldn't knock the wall down so has a sink over the cistern

Ours is like this. Quite nice hot having your toothbrush in the same room as a flushing toilet 😬

Our house was like that when we moved in. We put a small corner sink in the toilet and the problem was solved.

I've done a fair bit of travelling and the UK/America are the only countries that out a toilet in the bathroom. Most countries are separate and it's not a big deal, brand new houses are being built with them both separate so must work well enough. Yeah you go into the bathroom and wash afterwards or you go to the kitchen.

So if you visit someone's house and their bathroom and toilet is seperate then...SHOCKINGLY they will have left the toilet and walked to the bathroom/kitchen with toilet hands!! And we are all still alive and well. Whole nations are still alive and well. 😆

Literally no idea what you are talking about. The only place I’ve seen this is in the UK (I’ve never been to Australia)

Put the lid down before you flush and keep it down, problem solved.
flush water sprays over 6 feet away from
the loo so that should be done regardless of where your toothbrush is (you don’t want to get covered in loo water as you flush)

Normal for some homes. It's weird having a loo in the bathroom to me.

You just go downstairs and wash hands without getting fingers on anything. However, I would want to install a small basin in there if it was mine.

My grandma's house has this arrangement and we all thought it was odd.

Our current house was built in the 1970s and has a loo and sink in one room and the bath, shower and another sink in a different room. I love it and if I were building a house, would do it this way. It's much nicer luxuriating in the bath without a loo in the room!
