To take DC to dr due to vomiting?

So I’m after advice- I don’t know if this is unreasonable. My dc (5) vomited on Saturday afternoon and into the early hours but was fine Sunday (she ate well although had a bit of nausea). Today she seemed fine, a bit tired, a bit off her food. She’s just been sick again (Monday night). Should I take her to the Gp? I thought sickness in kids was normally a 24-48 hr thing? It seems to have gone and come back again 🤷‍♀️

What about calling 111 for advice to see if they think it is necessary. Probably not a great idea to take a kid with a sickness bug into a GP surgery where they could infect a lot of other people.

Kedece2410 · 13/03/2023 22:13

I wouldnt yet. Its only just over 48 & it's gone for a while & she's eaten a bit.

Besides she'll probably be at high school before you get an appointment

Eatentoomanyroses · 13/03/2023 22:17

Take her if you it’ll set your mind at rest but noro virus can stick around for a while. We’ve all had it here the past week. It’s shit

louderthan · 13/03/2023 22:18

Please don't take her to the dr if she's throwing up. Can you get a telephone appointment?

Cantseethewindows · 13/03/2023 22:21

This is how a lot of vomiting bugs in our house seem to go (mine are 2 and 4) - for some random reason there is often a kind of encore just when you think things are getting better🤦🏼‍♀️

Are you, as her mother, worried about her? Or is it more that this strikes you as odd?

Not meaning this to sound snarky, but the only time I've ever seen a GP about D&V was when I had it when DS2 was three weeks old, because he missed a feed and was still so young I wanted him checking out. We had an absolutely vile bug about a year ago, knocked me and both kids for six for a week each. Didn't go to the GP as there's nothing they can do and it's so contagious. As long as she's not dehydrated she doesn't need medical attention AFAIK. Good luck!

TheFairyCaravan · 13/03/2023 22:22

No, don’t take her. She’s likely got a virus which is self limiting. Just make sure she’s drinking, little and often, so she doesn’t get dehydrated and give her a bland diet if she’s hungry.

Iloveenidblyton · 13/03/2023 22:22

If it’s noro virus it’s highly infectious.
Not a good idea to expose others to it and it’s not yet been 48hrs.
I’d just keep an eye on her, offer sips of water if able to tolerate and see how she is tomorrow.

TwilightSilhouette · 13/03/2023 22:23

I wouldn’t take her to the doctor for that. Just keep her at home, give her fluids and food if she wants it.
She can go back to school 48hrs after the last episode of vomiting or diarrhoea.

SaltanVinegar · 13/03/2023 22:28

I doubt they’d agree to see her for this tbh. It’s more than likely viral, and if she was Ok on Sunday daytime and most of today I doubt she’s dehydrated. I’d keep an eye on it and if it continues or becomes extreme I’d consider calling for advice, but it doesn’t sound necessary yet.

AliceMcK · 13/03/2023 22:29

Agree, it’s not unusual for bugs to go like this. As long as you are getting fluids down her and she’s able to wee, I wouldn’t worry just yet.

If you want peace of mind can you call your GP and ask for a triage nurse to call you.

FurrylittleMonkie · 13/03/2023 22:31

Thanks for the advice everyone. I guess my concern was that she seemed better and now it’s come back. I didn’t think vomiting in kids was like that (she hasn’t had it before). Thanks everyone x

Funnily enough were going through the exact same with our DC age 5 this weekend. He was off school on Friday with sickness all day, wasn't sick at all on Saturday just low energy, was sick once on Sunday morning so we kept him off school today. He's been fine so we were planning on sending him to school tomorrow but he's just woken up being sick again! Obviously have to keep him off for 48 hours after being sick but also he's had so much time off school already (seems to pick up every bug going!)

Wow, you're extremely lucky she's not had this before! We had D&V 5 times in 2022 alone! Hope she feels better soon!

@MikeLitoriss yes it’s horrible isn’t it. How’s your dc doing now? X

You should definitely take her if the sickness is random it could be serious

scorpiogirly · 14/03/2023 23:41

Mind had this and she's 4. It lasted on and off intermittently for about a week and half and was brown and there was loads of it! Called 111 and they said to take her to bloody a and e. Thry were concerned because the coupd could indicate blood. Was there 7 hours for absolutely nothing.

Just try to keep her hydrated. I am sure she will be fine x
