Constant vomiting, fainting, headaches, and repeat….

A few months ago I started getting awful headaches. I just thought I was stressed, I’ve never suffered with headaches before, but didn’t think it was unusual. One night I lost vision in my eye completely and ended up vomiting all night. The next day I felt hungover but mostly okay. The nausea never went. The day after I passed out (woke up in the recovery position in Asda… not good!) but refused an ambulance because I thought it wasn’t a big deal.

That was around November. I am not any better. I’ve probably properly lost consciousness about 7 times. Today has just got me down completely, I was walking around outside my work and just started having horrible visual pain and felt like I was going to pass out, I didn’t, but vomited for like 5 minutes straight. It’s gone now, and I’m ravenously hungry!

I’ve had bloods done and my heart looked at, as well as a CT scan of my brain. All normal.

Im just so frustrated. I can’t function but I feel like the doctors just don’t think it warrants any further investigation. I’m terrified of losing my job :(

It sounds like it could be migraines but I would recommend seeing your GP ASAP to rule out anything more serious

OnlyFannys · 13/03/2023 18:40

Sorry I am actually having a migraine myself today so didnt read properly and see you have seen a doctor 🤦‍♀️ are they continuing to look into what it could be?

I do go to the doctors but they say they’ve done all basic tests and everything is fine. I can’t remember what it’s like not to feel light headed 24/7.

So sorry op. You need to keep going to have this investigated properly. It's no good them saying everything's normal and sending you away when this is still ongoing.

Getting a CT scan is pretty impressive investigation on the assumption there's no significant medical or family history to be suspicious of something sinister.

I think i would suggest keeping a headache diary as per the Migraine Trust link here I'd stay in touch with your GP as the attacks continue.

I hope that it gets better or that you get some help.

TempName247 · 13/03/2023 20:56

You’ve eliminated other things so it could well be migraine. Push your GP to get on some preventative meds such as Amitriptyline.

ObamaLlamas · 13/03/2023 21:05

Err you genuinely need to get a scan
Your symptoms are screaming brain tumour right now so get that ruled out ASAP. Then something like migraines can be treated from there. Can't believe you refused an ambulance 🤦‍♀️

She has had a brain scan.

Balloonsandroses · 13/03/2023 21:08

@ObamaLlamas the OP has had a scan. She needs to go back to her GP and discuss what next with someone qualified who can actually see her.

TempName247 · 14/03/2023 12:35

Just to add, I had many tests: hearing, eyes, balance, blood tests, brain scan etc and there was no evidence of anything wrong, I was told it may be migraine and that medication probably wouldn’t help - I had to pretty much beg to go on the medication as I was desperate to try anything at this point and it has actually stopped the symptoms. Please persevere OP.

@Linekar4eva hi op, sorry that you are going through this and hope you have found some solution to your problem. Is it possible for you to update. My DD has similar issues and has fainted 4 times since November as well. The last incident happened at A&E and the doctor said she has migraines. The GP thinks it could be but not very sure but has since referred us to a consultant. If you have found an answer and you could update me then I could ask my GP to look into it as well. Thanks.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 28/04/2023 08:36

I know people who’ve had stuff like this after their Covid booster. I was really unwell after mine. Are they related?

Worriedmrs · 28/04/2023 09:27

Not sure about the COVID thing but my DD issues started during COVID so it might/might not be related.

Noodles9391 · 28/04/2023 09:33

I have a lot of these symptoms . I already had chronic migraines with just head pain and they said the lightheaded ness is vestibular migraines. You need your go to refer you to a migraine department asap. If you can afford private treatment I suggest the national migraine centre in London .

Diorama1 · 28/04/2023 09:39

Similar symptoms and was told it was migraines. I lost vision in one eye for a few mins, very lightheaded all the time, feeling unsteady on feet, feeling nauseous, floaters in vision, seeing a mirage all the time, like heat rising from the ground, visual distortions like people's faces would be all twisted and I couldn't recognise people as their face was distorted. Had MRI of brain and eye, CT scan, ophthalmologic referral, 24 hour heart monitor and all clear.

I was offered migraine medication but by that time (4 years after referral!!) I wasn't too bad (went to balance physio which helped massively for vertigo symptoms) also tried to avoid triggers like bright sunlight and strong overheard florescent lights. Also Dr said meds can have bad side effects so you would want to be struggling with the symptoms to take it (this was a few years ago though so other meds might be available now).

Keep a diary and try to identify triggers and ask for medication as you seem quite bad.

Diorama1 · 28/04/2023 09:41

Actually just to add that DD15 had one episode, lost vision in one eye, nausea and slept deeply for 2 hours in the middle of the day which was very unlike her. Brought her to GP and said migraine. She hasnt had it since and that was about 6 months ago.

Worriedmrs · 28/04/2023 11:17

DD lost vision in eyes for few minutes and had a very intense headache. Took her to A&E where she fainted. The Emergency doctor was quite sure it was migraine as all her test were normal and said the faint can happen as a reaction to migraine. GP is not so sure and wants to take it further. Since November she had had 4 ECG, 1 ct scan, blood test and all are normal. Her recent blood test does have low iron and she is now on supplements. She also has photosensitivity.

Jaxhog · 25/10/2023 12:40

Whats your blood pressure like? I used to get something similar when I was much younger (and thinner), and it was due to low blood pressure. Drinking lots water would help.
