Would you consider this safe? Husband thinks it's fine, I think it's dangerous at the dinner table, which is over a very hard floor.

YABU - It's fine

YANBU - it's dangerous

If husband insists the stools would be in a skip.

I worked in a house where the family had benches at the dining table (no back) which the children used from 20 months and high bar stools at the kitchen work top/breakfast bar which the children used from 2 yrs. I was there for five years and nobody fell backwards off either bench or stool - it's not something I would worry about personally.

Normal height stool, fine.
Bar stool, not fine.

I would. My 2 year old hasn’t sat in a strapped in high chair for ages.

At his nursery they all sit on benches with no backs to eat ( like 4 children to one bench type thing). Children aged 18months - 6 years all on same benches.

My In laws let my then 3 year old sit on a stool at their house (unbeknown to me, I wouldn't have let him do this) and he fell off trying to climb down and hit his teeth on the table. Caused a lot of damage his baby teeth and I'm just praying that it hasn't affected his adult teeth when they come through.
