To ask what you miss about lockdown - light hearted

Nopurchase · 12/03/2023 21:59

This is light hearted and OK so I know that this is unreasonable and 100% I wouldnt want to go back into lockdown but there is a part of me that misses that initial feeling of feeling safe and cosy at home with my family (not that I dont now), playing games, no school runs, working from home being able to go out for a walk and it was so quiet and peaceful you couldnt hear any cars and so many birds, this was before all the big restrictions came in. I know it was so hard for so many people and dont get me wrong for us it was immensely difficult a lot of the time mentally and extremely stressfull, but there is a part of me that misses close family time in a bubble.

What do you miss?

No make up, hiding in your mask and not having to speak to people you have no interest in.
Going on walks with friends. I know this is still possible but all my friends have young children and their hobbies, quite rightly, take priority. It freed up my pals.

Lying in bed listening to an owl hooting, never heard one before and haven't heard one since.

Yes I do wonder were there more birds or could we just hear them. I remember walking and hearing bird song I'd never heard before not just a regular pigeon.

It was an introverts dream come true, wasn't it? No fear of missing out or being seen as a boring fker.
I regret not being on tiktok, because I think that would have helped me so much 😳.

Chickenly · 12/03/2023 22:25

DH’s job just fully stopped on full pay. My job became entirely WFH. We spent so much time together, the house was so clean, everything was sorted.

Maybe it’s just my memory but it was such amazing weather. Every photo I have of that time has glorious sunshine.

The world was so peaceful and quiet. No cars, no peaceful, no one even spoke in supermarkets, just no noise at all.

It was the best time of my life, but obviously it’s awful that it came at the expense of such upset and hardship for others.

Botw1 · 12/03/2023 22:26

Nothing

Anyone who misses it is perfectly welcome to recreate it though

Don't need to involve anyone else

MaryShelley1818 · 12/03/2023 22:26

The quietness.....working in the garden in the sunshine.

Fairislefandango · 12/03/2023 22:27

Loads of leisure time with my family. I effectively lost all my (part-time) work, so we were worse off financially, but dh was on full pay and at home but with minimal work to do.

Xmasbaby11 · 12/03/2023 22:28

Nothing. It wasn’t too bad for us really but just the nothingness.

oh wait, swimming lessons! It was great not having to drag the kids to those.

Nopurchase · 12/03/2023 22:29

I have memories of it being gloriously sunny and being in the garden

I miss lockdown 1 in particular - constant family time, sunshine, no traffic, appreciating where I live for the first time in ages, a simpler life!

LaFemmeDamnee · 12/03/2023 22:30

I hated it but it was nice not having to sit in traffic and the kids not getting a new bug every two weeks. Wouldn't go back.

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 12/03/2023 22:30

The peace and quiet..we couldn't hear the dual carriage way (3 miles from us) as it has no traffic.

PinkChampange · 12/03/2023 22:30

I miss how cheap the petrol was 🤣

notacooldad · 12/03/2023 22:31

Still working but not having anything to spend it on.
I saved £1000's!
I liked the roads being empty going to and from work and being able to get a parking space with 10m of the front door of work!
I was able to stay in touch with my friends who I socialize with as we also work together.

Largeflaskoftea · 12/03/2023 22:32

I went into the office one day a week and loved that there wasn’t any traffic. Then went to a supermarket on the way home, which was practically empty, and grabbed lots of bargains!

A simpler life sums it up well

Nothing, I saw my industry decimated and my mental health go into free fall and looking at the current news about babies and toddlers murdered in their homes in 2020/2021 just reinforces my belief that lockdown was the most evil thing a government ever inflicted on a country. It was a hellish hellish Armageddon of a thing.

Colourfingers2 · 12/03/2023 22:32

The peace.
Not having to work and still getting paid. Not being able to go to the pub or anywhere else so I had more money to spend on my kids.
Plus having the time to learn new things. I took up the Ukulele and did some online courses.

Aposterhasnoname · 12/03/2023 22:32

Quiet roads.

Rantypanties · 12/03/2023 22:33

I lost all my work so it wasn’t a great time for me and I didn’t like my daily quiet dog walks being ruined by all these people suddenly realising they could use their legs for a walk! 😂

however my lasting good memories are the weather and queuing up in Waitrose about 5pm-ish and getting some awesome yellow sticker bargains. Got 2 massive fat steaks of tuna for £5 instead of nearly £20, they were the best tuna steaks I had ever eaten and I’ll never forget them cause there wasn’t much else to be excited about!!! 😂

Largeflaskoftea · 12/03/2023 22:33

Yes, we were lucky enough to be axle to save money too (cancelled kids activities).

ScrollingLeaves · 12/03/2023 22:33

No more cars. No more roar of traffic. The sound of birds.

Slimjimtobe · 12/03/2023 22:34

My kids came on so well school wise during Covid as we did a tonne of reading and so on

I liked the time together and getting a break from work & tricky colleagues (though did from home)

but I didn’t like the claustrophobic feeling of not going outside of our distance allowance (not in UK)

Labraradabrador · 12/03/2023 22:34

Not having to go anywhere ever. linked to that, never wearing makeup and always wearing comfy clothing. Can you tell I am an introvert?

I was recently at a dinner party (gasp, horror) and someone was talking about how hard lockdown was. I nodded and smiled, but in my head was thinking about how lockdown was blissfully absent of dinner parties.

CalmConfident · 12/03/2023 22:35

Long bikes rides on empty roads with pollution free air
