Hey folks, not sure if it's appropriate to ask here so sorry if not. Recently (very recently) separated from husband after a 20+ year marriage and one DD.
Realising that i don't "do" anything with my life and i'm SO BORED. Literally, wake up, sort DD, go to work, come home, cook, clean, crash in front of the telly, rinse and repeat.
My best friends live all over the country, local friends are busy with their own lives/families, and i continue to just sit here.
So i'm looking for ideas and inspiration. What do you all do? Hobbies, interests, that get you out of the house, meeting people, making friends? There must be SOMETHING i can develop an interest in!!

Do you get child free nights? Live music, like open mic nights, can be fun :)

IglesiasPiggl · 12/03/2023 18:08

I sing in a choir and am a trustee of a local charity. Other ideas: Park run, walking great, book club, PTA if your DD is young, food bank volunteer, sports club coach or admin

In November my teenager made me join the gym (because they are too young to go without a supervising adult). I am the least interested in exercise person who could exist. However I've stuck at it three times a week and I feel more energetic and generally full of beans. I listen to audio books while there. I still don't love it. I'll never get an exercise high but I do enjoy how it makes me feel in everyday life.

Try looking locally at Rotary Clubs, Round Table etc. They are both open to all sexes now, not just males. When we moved to where we live now we knew 2 other people and had a business 15 miles from where we lived. Husband joined Round Table, which was men only in those days, and I joined Ladies Circle, which was the ladies equivalent. It has given us 40 years of social life, we have learnt loads about the local area, made friends from a wide social spectrum, and on the way helped raise £1,000s in a fun way. It has been a brilliant way to meet people. You may need to go to meetings if a few clubs to find one you feel comfortable in, but well worth it. They are also not as stuffy as they used to be either.

Pilates once a week.

Local history group once a month.

I’m very rock and roll 🤣

LilLilLi · 12/03/2023 18:10

I joined the local gym and just do classes. Yoga and spinning mainly.

Also did an online course last year and looking for a new one this year.

HeadNorth · 12/03/2023 18:10

Can you join a book group?
I go running and hillwalking and read with the occasional cinema or theatre outing.

JazzTheDog · 12/03/2023 18:16

I'm a leader in Girlguiding and run meetings on 2 different nights, I'm also involved heavily with a local sports club and spend some of my evenings messing about with various crafts.

That said, a night to slob out in front of the telly is great 😃

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 12/03/2023 18:21

I run, read, walk my dogs, train my dogs (forever trying to teach the clever one increasingly ambitious stuff, trying to teach the thick one to do the basics), I try and go to the gym 2 times a week. I also have horses but riding horses and owning horses are not the same hobby Blush

AceofPentacles · 12/03/2023 18:49

I've done online astrology courses
In person seminars and talks on interesting things
Go to art galleries then people watch in the cafe
Sound baths
All things I've done on my own

Pottedpalm · 12/03/2023 18:56

I do an adult ballet class and have done an evening class in painting.
Do you sing? Lots of my friends are in choirs.

Pottedpalm · 12/03/2023 18:57

Also gardening! Try growing some veg/salad/fruit. In the busy growing season I’m out in the garden until nine o clock.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 12/03/2023 18:59

I have a dog, so he needs walking at least once a day.
I also take riding lessons and do that once a week - now the weather is getting warmer/drier I'll be doing beach rides/hacks out once a month or so too.

But otherwise I'm a bit of a homebody. I like to just chill at home in peace and quiet.

Luredbyapomegranate · 12/03/2023 19:00

Running club (park run), walking club, community choir, meditation groups all good for meeting people.

I’d stick up a big sheet of paper or use an app and just note down random things as they appeal to you.

It probably feels like a bugger at the moment, but it’s a great opportunity for exploration, so I’d enjoy that period rather than feel you have to solve it too quickly.

Thanks all, really appreciate your ideas. Now just have to figure out how to get brave enough to get out there on my own!

I like gardening and I am on the way to Plant Mom status - which to ke means I buy plants that like to die and I spend hours fading around trying to revive them!

I sew clothes for me and accessories for charity fundraisers. I volunteer and do litter picks with my children.

Pottery and woodwork are on my to do list. DIY and decorating.

GBoucher · 13/03/2023 09:55

Horse riding, skiing, art galleries, drawing and painting, wine tasting / winery tours, foreign language courses

monsterradeliciosa · 13/03/2023 11:53

I love amateur theatre
I often look for new work contracts if I'm at a loss of what to do
I'm looking into making money online via digital products
I watch movies that are on my watch list
I have lots of cleaning and decluttering that always needs doing
I research a lot of things out of interest and go down rabbit holes
I wrote a movie script
