Urgent covid pass for USA?

Flowers54 · 11/03/2023 20:52

I am travelling with elderly relative for the trip of a lifetime to USA in a few days time. I have somehow completely overlooked the requirement for needing an NHS covid pass which she does not have. Previous pass she had was a paper version which she no longer has.

I can’t see her until tomorrow so can’t start the process until the morning and it says can take up to 7 days online on the NHS app

Im having a meltdown -

YABU - of course you can get a covid pass within 48 hours

YANBU - not likely to get a pass approved in the next 48 hours

I got mine instantly. If she’s had three jabs it comes up on the NHS app. I literally did it in the car on the way to the airport!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 11/03/2023 20:54

Just did it this week for my 12 yo. Back the same day and think it said up to 24 hours so you should be fine. It's quicker if they have ever used GP services online

Whammyyammy · 11/03/2023 20:56

I printed mine off immediately after downloading it from nhs site.

I'm in the US now, and can confirm american airlines still request to inspect them on check in. No checks once in states.

mnahmnah · 11/03/2023 20:56

Yep, instant on the NHS app

FamilyLife2point4 · 11/03/2023 20:57

Honestly didn’t realise this was still a thing ….. anywhere. It doesn’t stop the spread…

Hope you get it sorted

LIZS · 11/03/2023 21:00

Nhs site is instant

Flowers54 · 11/03/2023 21:01

Thanks this has given me some reassurance. Prior to online check in we have to use a third party app called VeriFLY to get covid documents approved before check in.

@FamilyLife2point4 neither did I - I think that’s why it didn’t even register with me to check 😳 but feeling completely stupid now

It should be possible to get a printed version from her GP, though I don't know if that would be acceptable for travel to the US.

BashfulClam · 11/03/2023 21:04

Where are you? I printed mine this week (Scotland) to take with me. They were instantly available on the NHS site.

you dont have to use verifly, just means you cant do online check in, you can still do normal check in at airport without using the app

NerdyBird · 11/03/2023 21:11

Who are you flying with? I had to use the airline app to check in and upload the NHS pass, then show again at bag drop. It was fairly simple, and all ok considering my NHS name doesn't match my passport. No-one looked at it after that.

Flowers54 · 11/03/2023 21:20

thanks, flying with Aer Lingus

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 11/03/2023 21:29

We did Verify and then Aer Lingus made us input the same information again the night before the flight after we’d checked in. Very stressful, and then I found out you can do the whole thing with paper at the airport if necessary.

Last year we got the NHS pass though the app for DSS - he had not previously registered - and it took less than 24 hours, and I’m sure it was a Sunday we started the process.

Theimpossiblegirl · 11/03/2023 21:32

It's only instant if already registered. They changed apps so if she's not had one before she needs to verify her details to get her pass. It can still be quick but you could do it for her tonight to get the ball rolling.

NerdyBird · 11/03/2023 21:32

Looks like you can do online check in directly or use their app. You can just do a standard check-in at the airport, might just take a bit longer. Have you done ESTA if you need one? I nearly forgot it.

LittleMousewithcloggson · 11/03/2023 21:33

You don’t need to use the NHS app anymore to get covid pass
You can get covid pass emailed to you directly, it’s instant

LittleMousewithcloggson · 11/03/2023 21:33

covid-status.service.nhsx.nhs.uk/

LittleMousewithcloggson · 11/03/2023 21:35

Sorry - wrong link I think. Will try to find right one!

LittleMousewithcloggson · 11/03/2023 21:38

covid-status-letter.service.nhsx.nhs.uk/who-are-you-requesting-for?service=digital

think that’s the right one!

Schmutter · 11/03/2023 21:41

Don’t you just add it to your phone wallet from the NHS app?

PollyPut · 11/03/2023 21:45

I had to do something similar last year for relatives. It was done in a few hours - but I did need to be with them, have an email address and have their passport to hand to get them registered. It might have changed of course - but worth making sure they have their passport tomorrow when you see them

LIZS · 11/03/2023 21:45

From the nhs website you get sent a link to the pdf which you can print or download

www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/nhs-covid-pass/get-an-nhs-covid-pass/

Flowers54 · 13/03/2023 06:23

All sorted thank you!

I know numerous people that have flown with aer lingus this year and have never been asked for any proof of vaccination. VeriFly is not compulsory either. I’ve just got back from america myself flying with Virgin and we just checked in at the airport and no body asked about our covid passes the whole trip. Also you can just download the pass online instantly. Hope this helps.
