AIBU to have lost my car insurance details?

I can't for the life of me remember who my car insurance is with - have trawled through emails etc but can't find it.
Does anyone know a way of tracing this? I know it is insured and roughly when renewal is due, but no idea who it is with Confused

Did you use any comparison websites when buying your car insurance? If you did it might still be in your saved or past quotes.

Iamclearlyamug · 11/03/2023 13:12

Can you go back through your bank statement and find the payment?

RampantIvy · 11/03/2023 13:13

Do you not get your documents online?

MatildaTheCat · 11/03/2023 13:13

I think the DVLA will have this information as you’ll have needed to provide proof of insurance when you taxed the car?

Karwomannghia · 11/03/2023 13:14

Have you searched using the word policy in your email search bar?

notangelinajolie · 11/03/2023 13:14

How did you pay? Bank statement perhaps?

gabsdot45 · 11/03/2023 13:15

The name should be on your insurance disc.

What's an insurance disc?

gogohmm · 11/03/2023 13:17

@gabsdot45 what's an insurance disk? It's a certificate of insurance in the U.K., and mine was downloaded from an email

LIZS · 11/03/2023 13:45

Discs became obsolete in UK years ago! There is a database of insured vehicles. How would you have paid?

londonrach · 11/03/2023 13:48

This has been a huge problem for us too..wish they post the insurance out still.

Pleasecreateausername13 · 11/03/2023 13:49

Check your bank statement.

They were for road tax anyway.

LIZS · 11/03/2023 13:51

True, but you could not get one without proof of insurance.

Vehicle excise duty

OrangeKettle · 11/03/2023 13:52

I did this. I had to check bank statements to find out.

No but it had no info on it as to who the insurer was which is the op's dilemma.

motor insurance database:

This will only show whether the vehicle has insurance, not who the insurer is. The insurer can can request this information when trying to trace a third party following an incident, that facility isn’t available to the public.

Suggestions of looking back over bank statements are good. If you know who you were insured with in previous years that insurer may have made a note of which company you moved to.

FanGurrl · 11/03/2023 14:16

Thanks everyone, it was paid in full so I think bank statements is the way to go. My online banking doesn't go back that far but I think I can request further statements.
Have recently changed phone and somehow lost a bit of info!

Check emails for the word policy. If that fails try certificate, if that fails try motor.

And yes, bank statements or credit card statements.

FanGurrl · 11/03/2023 14:18

@londonrach So true! My new resolution is to print out docs and keep a paper copy!

FanGurrl · 11/03/2023 14:19

@saraclara Thanks, will give 'policy' a go, I've tried the others already!

False.

No, it says specifically it’s to find out who your insurance is with.
