help me throw a broken fridge magnet away?

Plasticy fridge magnet souvenir from an African trip fell off the frige and it's giraffey leg broke off.

I've glued it before and am now thinking I should throw it away but I can't quite manage it.

It's on the top of the fridge with it's bit. It looks at me accusatorially

Other than reminding me of the trip which is not itself special, it was just a holiday, it holds no sentimental value. It's quite cute looking but I have lots of other magnets from other trips so its no big deal. It wasn't a present or anything

I'm toying between gluing the leg back on, leaving it 3 legged (which actually looks ok at a quick glance because it sort of looks like it's other leg is concealed) or throwing it away.

I know I should bin it but I can't. for no obvious reason.

So I'm not drip feeding I think I do have borderline hoarding tendencies. I'm very much 'keep it in case' in life generally - keep the jam jar/spare ribbon in case type.

I'm very pathetic. What's wrong with me.

Please give me a shove/some good reasons why I should just chuck it out. Help me.

Take a photo of it so you'll remember it then chuck it in the bin.

Fridge magnets serve no known purpose other than to remind us of happy times. Broken or not, if that's what your giraffe does keep it and smile.

Cocobutt · 10/03/2023 21:37

I think the fact that you’ve made a thread about it suggests you should keep it.

When you are ready to throw it out take a photo of it and pop it in a photo album.
Then you’ll still have the memory of it but without it taking up too much space.

the80sweregreat · 10/03/2023 21:40

Have you looked on line to find a replacement?
I've done this before with a broken one.

MrsMoastyToasty · 10/03/2023 21:40

It doesn't remind you of the African trip. Your brain does that.
Ditch the magnet, keep the brain.

YaWeeSkitter · 10/03/2023 21:40

Im no use. I broke my microwave because I was trying to fix a fridge magnet.

😂😂😂

MrsWojadobakowsky · 10/03/2023 21:53

I would keep it, it has happy memories for you and if you are asking on here, you are not ready to get rid of it. I have got rid of things in the past and regretted it...
You can buy magnetic sheets, you could maybe glue it on to a bit of one of those, with the leg in place and it would be more secure on the fridge.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 10/03/2023 22:02

Reasons to throw it away

Feng Shui says that broken items are bad for the energy of your home

Clutter is also bad so any small thing you can do towards breaking the hoarding habit is helpful

Fridge magnets are naff and look untidy.

BatFaceOwl · 10/03/2023 22:02

The very fact that you accept and understand that you have hoarding tendencies means that you should throw it in the bin.

Littleoxforddictionary · 10/03/2023 22:11

Imagine a future where you have kept the fridge magnet. You have died after a long happy life. Your child, or other relative, now has to clear out your house, you are making them deal with it. You wouldn't leave an empty crisp packet on the floor for them to throw out, so don't make them pick up your other rubbish.

Annasass · 10/03/2023 22:12

The back of my Thailand floating market fell off. I’m no hoarder but I kept it for the memory for a while, then slung it. I caught the man out trying to rip me off, he was shouting to the man who took me off to the boat “Make sure she only has half an hour, she won’t pay ”. Trying to shame me. I’m so glad we did as my arse was aching so badly after 10 mins 😆

Or - the child or other relative sees the magnet, realises it meant something to you and takes it to remember you.

I have some small items which belonged to my dearest friend, I sorted her belongings, they make me smile when I look at them.

BelarusianDoll · 10/03/2023 22:24

Maybe you should break it into little bits so it looks less giraffe-like and sweet. Much easier to then bin it!

XenoBitch · 10/03/2023 22:26

Take a photo of it, then bin.

NoMoreAgeJokes · 10/03/2023 22:35

Take a photo of it first and then say a fond goodbye as you place it in the bin. It will be OK and you can keep the photo as long as you want.

MrsWojadobakowsky · 10/03/2023 22:44

Send it to me, I will put it on my fridge and send you a photo of it.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 11/03/2023 07:19

Take a photo if it and then throw it away. Do NOT fill your home with broken tat.

custardbear · 11/03/2023 07:27

Think we should have a photo of it OP

KimberleyClark · 11/03/2023 07:31

Another fridge magnet fan here and I also bring home Christmas tree decorations so my Christmas tree is full of memories. I would keep your giraffe.

KimberleyClark · 11/03/2023 07:32

Oh and some of my fridge magnets belonged to late MIL so more nice memories there.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 11/03/2023 08:12

Glue it.

Zhougzhoug · 11/03/2023 08:15

Say “thank you for your service” as you put it in the bin

Careeradviceplease1234 · 11/03/2023 08:19

Get rid of it. You have no particular sentimental attachment and there is absolutely no use for a broken giraffe magnet 😅

BoredBetsy · 11/03/2023 08:19

I love fridge magnets and I'd keep it but if it holds no value to you then bin it.
