To refuse Thames water access

Hi, I have a buildover agreement with Thames water where we moved the manhole so we could build an extension. This was over 10 years ago. Now Thames water say they want access to the old source to inspect an issue neighbour is having. They want me to rip open the floor which is ridiculous. Am I OK in saying I don't want to do this. A new foundation is there and it is concreted over. Not sure what they're hoping to see that they can't access through the new manhole. Any advice?

What does your original agreement say about access?

MushMonster · 10/03/2023 17:27

Have you shown them the agreement you have?

What does your agreement say about access? It should be stipulated?

I had a look at the letter from Thames water no where does it mention access. Only something about an indemnity stating I'm not liable for repair costs if public sewer shows damage linked to my building works

I think you need to look at the original paperwork

i think 'access' means sending a camera /robots down to inspect or reline the drain

Look at your household insurance to see if you have legal cover, if so get them to handle it
