Jurassic park franchise for 3 year old?

DD loves dinosaurs and when searching for the children film ‘dinosaur’ she saw Jurassic Park and asked to watch it. We’ve now watched all the films and she loves them and asks to watch them everyday..

today she asked for a dinosaur film and I asked her which one to which she replies “the new one where the dinosaur eats the man” (Jurassic world) - part of me thinks it’s not appropriate, but the other part of me thinks.. she’s not scared, why not watch them?

so my AIBU is, would you let a 3 year old watch the Jurassic franchise if they’re not scared of it?

Well if she's already watched them then it's rather shutting the door after the horse has bolted.

lazycats · 10/03/2023 12:13

Ok, to be fair you said she's only watched the first. I'd say that's be far the scariest so you're probably fine.

WarrickDavisAsPlates · 10/03/2023 12:15

My 3 year old is obsessed with Jurrassic Park and we watch them all the time, particularly the third one for some reason.

They are scarier than I remember them being but tbh if they've already seen them and aren't scared and want to watch them again then it's not even like it's new for them now anyway.

DrMarciaFieldstone · 10/03/2023 12:17

Mine loved them at that age (still do). Go for it. Not all children get scared at things on tv, you make your own decisions as a parent.

BadgeronaMoped · 10/03/2023 12:26

Isn't there a weird guy in one of the new ones who pulls trophy teeth from the dinosaurs while they're still alive? That's what DS (12) told me. There's a lego Jurrassic world short film she could watch instead Grin

Loopyloooooo · 10/03/2023 12:30

If she was ok with it I wouldn't worry. Every kid is different...also I think a bit of mild peril is good for kids, develops their imagination 😉

MrsWhites · 10/03/2023 12:38

My son watched them from a young age, he’s 8 now, knows them word for word and is still dinosaur obsessed!

I mean if it’s not upsetting her or causing problems I can’t see the harm.

Bunnyishotandcross · 10/03/2023 12:40

Camp Cretaceous is an animated series that is really good!
Ds 8 has seen all the real films since he was old enough to sit still. Joy of older siblings!

Corah5 · 10/03/2023 12:41

My kid watched them from being about 3. There’s also Camp Cretaceous and Lego Jurassic World which is more age appropriate.

We have exactly the same here. Our now 4 year old is obsessed with them. He watches them all the time but particularly likes the third one.

MeMyCatsAndMyBooks · 10/03/2023 12:56

It's hardly the poltergeist she'll be fine! Grin
I took my 6 year old to see the last Jurassic world at the cinema, both my kids have been jurrassic park fans since they were little.

SparkyBlue · 10/03/2023 13:05

Let her off. All children are different so what terrifies one child another won't bother another one. DS now age 7 loves all the jusrassic park movies. We knew one almost off by heart at one stage. We were so excited last year heading off to the cinema for the newest one we were counting down the weeks.

FartSock5000 · 10/03/2023 13:42

Honestly the World trio are much more adult than the Park ones.

There are some traumatic scenes in JW1 & 2 that are a bit much for a young person but the newest film Dominion is very tame and has no stand out moments that may cause bad dreams, upset or confusion like JW1 and JW2 may do.

elevenplusdilemma · 10/03/2023 16:06

Why don't you watch them yourself first. You know your child best and will be able to gauge whether they'd cope ok.

EilonwyWithRedGoldHair · 14/03/2023 09:16

I'd say no, but that's based on DS, who found anything with children in danger too much for him. If your child is ok with it I think it's fine.

And children can get scared/worried by random stuff, they might be fine with Jurassic Park but really worried by something innocuous on Cbeebies.

Saltywalruss · 14/03/2023 09:18

No, not appropriate for a three year old.

TheSoapyFrog · 14/03/2023 09:23

I'd say probably not. My 8 year old loves dinosaurs too. He tried to watch Jurassic Park, but he found it too scary. I think the ones that followed on might be a bit darker as well.
He does watch Camp Cretaceous which I think is on netflix. It's animated and not quite as scary.

PuttingDownRoots · 14/03/2023 09:27

Sometimes films arent scary at 3yo because they don't fully understand, become more scary as they are 5-7ish then less scary by 9/10yo.

MigratorySheep · 14/03/2023 09:31

This!! And this:

DD has watched films she was fine with at 3-5 but re-watching them at 10 was in floods of tears and didn't sleep well for days.

KillingLoneliness · 14/03/2023 09:45

I grew up on Jurassic Park and was obsessed with it when it came out and I was only 3! My own children also watched all of them from a young age as none of them are particularly scary.

JussathoB · 26/10/2023 23:25

Absolutely not.
Surely you need something for 3 year olds like ‘the land that time forgot’ ? I think that’s what it was called. Or find something else suitable.
