To travel on train from London to Leeds tomorrow.

Have to pop to our office in Leeds for training, others are travelling up too. Noone seems concerned about the Amber weather alert up there. I'm worried about not being able to get back down as need to be home for Friday AM. WWYD?!

Just go.

Are trains running? See how it is in the morning

Whooyou · 08/03/2023 22:05

I work for LNER and everything is fine up here. You don't need to worry.

GreatContinental · 08/03/2023 22:29

Why wouldn't you?
Weather is worse in London than Leeds.

DangerPigeon · 08/03/2023 22:32

Have a look at the travel news in the morning and make a decision then. Hard to know exactly what we'll get with snow sometimes, it's already settling here but it depends on how it'll affects the train lines tomorrow.

CorStrewth · 08/03/2023 22:38

I'm leaving at 8am but snow due to hit north at 3pm onwards. Downward return travel is at 5pm...

I wouldn't go if not essential, personally. Isn't the big issue in the Midlands, which is... between Leeds and London?

The snow is supposed to worsen tomorrow afternoon.

Can I just say, thank you for being so great with dogs. Your staff are always so lovely when I travel with my nervous rescue.

GreatContinental · 08/03/2023 23:07

Having travelled between Leeds and London for 17 years by train at least twice a week- there has been once that the train was fully cancelled by snow.

That was because staff couldn't get to the station in the morning- not because the train couldn't run

They run - just with delays.

Delay repay is fab- at 1 point I was on £1000 a month

Leftbutcameback · 08/03/2023 23:09

I’d agree with others - even when we had really bad snow (for the south) and the roads were gridlocked the trains still ran. My OH had to abandon the car (mine!) and get a train home.

It seems to be the colder temps that are the issue with ice, frozen points etc, rather than the snow. Although good point above about staff struggling to get in by road.

Lots of info on the Weather board OP, might be useful.

bugsinmybrain · 08/03/2023 23:11

If you have a ticket and the train can't get you to your destination- they'll either provide a replacement bus service to the nearest running train or if you're one of the few people trying to travel they'll provide you a taxi

Ofc you have to get in touch with the train operator to organise the taxi

But unless the train operator states not to travel - I would, they'll see you get home

SkiingIsHeaven · 08/03/2023 23:14

It's going to be chilly. Better bring your big coat.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 08/03/2023 23:27

Not the same line or distance I know, but I got from London to Coventry and back fine today

Enthrallingstoryofstillness · 08/03/2023 23:37

The snow forecast is for tomorrow afternoon though to all those saying fine today

Network rail here 🙋
I'm 25 miles north of Leeds, not much snow so far, just flurries.
We've not been warned of any potential disruptions yet
