Pneumatic Drill Outside at 2am

Aibu to be annoyed? ...

From about 10pm until about 2am last night the road outside my house was shut. There were workers right outside digging up the road with pneumatic drills and with trucks with bright lights flashing. They were shouting out to each other.

It kept us all awake. As a single woman I wasn't prepared to go out and question them.

My reason for being particularly annoyed is that my daughter had A level "mock exams" today (the results of which are to be used as a guidance for Uni applications). She didn't get much sleep.

I've spoken to our highways department today to ensure it's not happening again tonight, as I'll get her to stop at a friends as she has more exams tomorrow.

It turns out it was Anglian Water who only got permission to do the work if they notified residents (which they didn't)!

I suppose I should let it drop but it's really frustrating when you're all awake at 2am!

Jesus Christ. They were probably doing emergency works. Happened to me once, I walked out into the street around midnight when they started (a petite woman in my 20's) and just asked what they were doing and how long. Felt like an idiot when they said it was emergency works as obviously they weren't starting a conservatory extension or there for the sake of it.

You don't need to be terrified of working men just because they aren't in suits.

Anglian Water?
It's quite easy to find out what they're up to - inyourarea.digdat.co.uk/AnglianWater

I'd be really annoyed. Yes the work may have been essential, but in anything other than an emergency you should have been given notice so you could make alternative plans if you wanted to. I live behind a railway line and get letters about night works on a fairly regular basis. Not once in 20 years have they disturbed me, but the courteousy is still appreciated.

That’s the point, it IS an emergency.

They weren't doing it for fun that time of night. It was probably to stop a huge leak.

Exactly!
Get it go Op if the work needs done it needs done.

Your poor baby might have missed out on her beddy byes (diddums) have you considered how much more danaging to the street an u expected water cut off would be? some actual babies would not have been able
To consume anything if their formula couldnt be made up.
Finally as a single woman you are afraid of a team of Anglia water employees!! Why? What on earth do you think they are going to do? Launch a mass attack on you because you ask why they are digging rhe road up? You silly silly woman!

They wouldn't be there at that time unless it a huge problem...I had it once night in our road due to huge gas leak. Sounds like emergency. Hope DD mocks go ok x
