What I mean is you can possibly laugh about it now.
For instance because of reading the Unexplained magazine growing up I was convinced I was going to "Self human combust" as that was an article in there.
Also an adult told me that bleach "Makes things smaller" so I was petrified to sit on the loo if I could smell bleach as I thought my bottom would disappear.

I also thought that I or someone close to me would internally combust, must of read an article about it.

It's what I would find more traumatic today. He had a series of ridiculous outfits.

I stopped watching it in ~1986, so missed it!

Apparently it was shown in 1983, so I was only 6. Clearly made a lasting impression on me, I did have a general fear of skulls though.

I was scared I'd get a message from god telling me I had to be a nun, I really didn't want to be a nun!

I can laugh about it now,but it wasn't funny at the time! When I around 4 or 5,I can remember being frightened of JCBs and any sort of mechanical digger.

verabarbleen · 09/03/2023 18:27

I thought quick sand and the Bermuda Triangle would be a much bigger deal in my life than it has been 😂

GeorgeAndTimmyTheDog · 09/03/2023 18:40

@verabarbleen
Yes to both and I partly blame Barry Manilow for the second one.

My first long term girlfriend had a fear of ships, something to do with the way they tower over you. We went to the fish quay in North Shields and there was a huge factory trawler alongside.

She started swaying, gibbering and fainted. I had to carry her away up the hill, to a street where she couldn't see it!

Minieggbrownies · 09/03/2023 19:13

If we went to the shops near closing time I thought that we might get locked in and have to stay there all night.

lurchermummy · 11/03/2023 00:38

@justmyluck1234 now you're making me feel really old as my DD used to watch Teletubbies as a toddler (she was scared of the Noo Noo)

RobertaFirmino · 11/03/2023 00:57

Morph. He was a freaky little fucker, always shape-shifting and I would hide behind the sofa when he appeared on TV. The opening sequence to the ITV Schools show 'Picture Box' was also terrifying. Still creeps me out to this day.

Divorcedalongtime · 11/03/2023 01:00

Moomins terrified me with their big noses and how they would glide instead of walk… and I definitely thought foxes were dangerous to humans

Bassetlover · 11/03/2023 02:18

Zebedee from the Magic Roundabout 😰

TheDogthatDug · 11/03/2023 02:21

I was scared of SHC as well and dogs with rabies
