Ok - I know IABU and also know I need to get a life ... but ... last night I I discovered had my first definite Facebook unfriending in nearly 3 years and first one ever on my new fb account! I know I'm acting about 12, but admit it - it stings a little / j don't do controversial posts !

I don't do Facebook, I just have a no friends account so I can join groups but everyone uses it differently. Some people will keep everyone for the friend count and mute many of them, others will unfriend if there's no interaction or they don't want people they barely know seeing their stuff anymore.
As you don't post a lot of stuff it's unlikely to be because they don't like you, if that makes you feel any better.

Thank you - and yes I agree

You don't? I only have people I actually know on mine so I know the exact amount.

I have absolutely no idea. I just checked and apparently the average number of FB friends is 338. I don’t think most people are keeping track of hundreds of people.

I’ve had mine since 2007. I know everyone on there, but it’s not a close knit friendship circle that I monitor. I wouldn’t notice if a dozen people unfriended me and I don’t think I’ve posted anything in about two years.

I didn’t think people still properly used FB anymore, tbh. Do you mind if I ask how old you are?

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 06/03/2023 17:08

I always think you have to be a bit of a show-off to delete people you haven’t fallen out with. It’s like saying “Oh, I’m far too important to see the occasional picture of Linda from school on a night out or playing with her children. What’s the point, I haven’t seen her since 2012”.

I always thought half the point of Facebook was to keep in contact with people you like, but aren’t necessarily close with? People you might not have long phone calls with or invite around for dinner, but who you’re still interested in?

You know the exact number of FB friends you have?

It’s at the top of your profile page. I see the number literally every time I go on Facebook.

Late 40's. Only social media I have bar here.

I just went on FB (for the first time in a month) to check and it’s not on top of mine. It’s to the left, under photos and intro.

It’s easily checked, but it’s not something that would occur to me to do - and it wouldn’t register if I scrolled past. I really don’t think it’s something the majority of people make a mental note of, but perhaps this thread will surprise me! If you don’t mind, may I ask how old you are?

I’m in my 30’s, so I guess it makes sense we’d interact with social media differently.

@2023a** I fully admit I'm a bit 'random' for remembering certain dates etc Grin

I’m the same, can’t remember to do life admin but I’ll remember the date I realised someone unfriended me in 2008 😂

i always think it’s a bit of a shame, sometimes I may not be super close to someone but it’s nice to still have the connection. Some people I went on a trip with in 2011 have all bar one unfriended me now which I get as we’ve not seen each other since but that was our one link and it’s gone

petridishmystery · 06/03/2023 17:25

(Should add, we didn’t know each other before the trip, it was a charity trek thing that we all signed up for independently)

TroysMammy · 06/03/2023 17:27

I'm miffed because my request to join a Facebook dolls house miniatures tutorial group has been declined. Ffs I have a dolls house, beach hut and potting shed but apparently I didn't agree to the rules. Perhaps yes wasn't a full sentence.

@petridishmystery - ah it is a shame about those people on the trek - like you say - your only link
