MIL and rude food comments - TW Eating disorders

Putting TW for eating disorders as discusses food and calories.

MIL is staying for the weekend. Having uncalled for comments on my breakfast.

It's peanut butter on toast, the nice one with no additives. "I'd look at the calories on that" picks it up "Oh I can't find the calories"

Helps herself to the tiniest bit of it.

"I think it's very fattening and very addictive"

Ok. That's me told then!

I get stuff like this all the time!

And yes I am probably needing to lose weight but that's not the point, this was not asked for. Also at the family breakfast time it's embarrassing and also don't really want DC hearing it either.

Yes I also get told they learned all about nutrition at school etc which they don't these days etc

BP is all about taking pills...(apparently)

Just to add - low fat, high sugar means constant blood sugar peaks and troughs, hunger as the sugar doesn't satisfy for long enough and poor energy levels.

Mum would be getting up in the night to eat as she felt so bad. Purely because she'd not had enough fat or protein during the day.

My ex MIL did this once so I turned to one of the DC and said "grandma's mind is going a bit dotty with her age and she has forgotten it's really rude to comment on other people's eating."

I did similar and insinuated she was going a bit senile whenever she ignored something she had been asked not to do as well. Really mean of me actually but it was the only thing that worked.

My mil tried to shame me when we took ds on his first trip out post birth. Asked how I was going to manage my fry up in those jeans.
In my size 8's mil? Just fine thanks.
Ds was 2 weeks old!
I actually wasn't keen on a cooked breakfast but made a point of eating loads!
She wasn't happy unless the table were sat hanging on her every word regarding her bowels! Grim woman!

Shame that the toxic attitudes about women and food are still knocking around.

Let's hope for future generations to have healthier messages

Orangesandlemons77 · 05/03/2023 12:33

I think part of it is a bit of a tendency to 'put down' and be 'better than' which is somethign I have noticed more with age

And maybe something about control as well.

Lots of women do this; it's one upping and bitchy. Even at 80.

Orangesandlemons77 · 05/03/2023 12:35

It's really made me think i don't want to be like this at 80! Fat or not!

Like THAT I mean
