I'm turning into that grumpy middle aged woman.... 🤣. Seems like lots of little things annoy me

This morning's being, stopped at cafe for breakfast
My coffee didn't arrive until I'd finished my bacon sandwich

Day ruined 😉😂

OP posts:

Listening to people talking and eating on cooking shows

PylaSheight · 08/03/2023 12:31

Out of date temporary road signs. There's one warning of "Ice" on my commute, which stays in situ even when there's no ice, rendering it meaningless 🙄Only have these warning signs when the danger is actually there

When I’m waiting for a gap in the traffic to pull out of a junction and the last car lets me out. I’ve seen the gap behind them and am preparing to go, then I have to realise they’re letting me out and wave to say thank you. It makes me irrationally angry and resentful!

Oh yes, why do they do that!? Don't they look in their rear view mirrors and see there was no reason to do that? 🙄

Same as when I'm a pedestrian and I see a big gap after the last car in a stream of traffic, and they stop and wave me across. It makes me really cross, and sometimes I'll deliberately walk up the road so I can cross behind them as planned. Fuck off, you're not being helpful, it's irritating, and it makes you seem unaware of your surroundings.

Fizbosshoes · 08/03/2023 19:43

I get unreasonably annoyed when you get a letter (usually NHS or government issue) and it says on it "if you need a braille copy or translation in another language pls < insert instruction of what to do>"
And each time I read it, I think to myself , but if you can't read English or you're blind you won't see the instructions!" 🤷‍♀️

There are various scanner type devices that can read out text, OCRs have been around for decades. Some will translate into other languages.

Lol, proof that it was an unreasonable thing to be annoyed about! (Especially as I don't need Braile or translation to another language!)

Yes I find this annoying too, both as a driver and a pedestrian. Especially if someone has a green light at traffic lights and stops for me to cross. Aaagh no, you are meant to go! Sometimes I deliberately look away and they beep me! I just ignore them even more.

I don't perceive it as kind, as you say it's just annoying.

Droppit · 14/03/2023 15:12

Tommy Walsh's voice. (Used to be on Changing Rooms and now on Homes Under the Hammer). It's got a weird gravelly tone to it and I just want him to give a bloody good cough. Sets me off when I hear it. Nice guy though.

I don't think it's unreasonable to be annoyed. I've had to ask the eye clinic to send me letters in alternative formats.

Sorry, OP and others, your coffee timing preferences are very legitimate! But...

My ex-girlfriend found it impossible, genuinely impossible, to eat anything sweet without having a cup of tea or coffee with it. It used to drive me mad. I would be so embarrassed if we were eating at someone else's house and someone offered her a slice of cake - she'd immediately ask for a cup of tea as well!

I have my preferences too, and some I'm very particular about. But I know when and where to put them aside in social situations!

I usually ask for milk because unless I make the cakes myself most are too sweet to my liking.

Saying that, I’d be surprised no one would offer a beverage to go with the cake if there weren’t beverages already offered.

Recipe books with no pictures. I eat with my eyes ffs I don't want just written instructions I need to see what I am potentially ending up with.

This annoys me too!

YES! this drives me up the wall!

But when I go to point it out to them, I sound pathetic and pedantic so tend to just rage inwardly.

I used to have the exact same problem with how people pronounced my former surname after seeing it written down. I hated the name, but I also hated having to correct their pronunciation, because it sounded so petty and pretentious. I was very glad to ditch the name when I got married!

lieselotte · 15/03/2023 11:48

Not really a small thing, but the fact that so many MNers accept poor customer service as something we just need to put up with (see the Honda thread and the Aldi bag search threads as examples).

I did this yesterday :( Think of something like Julie/Julia. I read it as Julie and replied Dear Julie but realised today it was Julia. Hopefully they won't be too offended.

abandonhope · 15/03/2023 12:27

The little pats of butter in cafes that are nearly always served rock hard straight from the fridge so they're impossible to spread.

The fact that the word 'lose' has almost disappeared, at least on MN. A poster who described herself as a pedant even wrote 'loose' instead of 'lose'.😀

Faffers, just crack on with it.

We're trying. I have a book that will help me manage my procrastination. I'm just trying to get round to reading it ..... 😚

A Frenchman speaking English and explaining Italian pronunciation, love it!

It's still not laartay....

Ginmonkeyagain · 15/03/2023 14:36

Mr Monkey, when he comes in from work or a night out will leave keys, wallet and bag on the dining table and dump his jacket over one of the dining chairs.

We have a storage area in the hall, neatly concealed behind a moving wall, installed at great expense, where all these types of things are stored. It is literally just a few steps away from the living room.

But no .... dining table every time. Sometimes I consider marrying him just so I can divorce him over it.

We have a more budget version. A basket under a console table in the hall, that in winter, contains everyone's hats, scarves, gloves etc. In the summer it has baseball caps, sunhat etc.

Every day DH puts his hat on the console table. It's not even steps away he would simply need to lower his arm by about 50cm!! I read (probably on MN!) to help be more tidy, put 1 or 2 nice/decorative things on a surface to stop dumping crap on it. (I'm not a clean/neat freak but the hall is very small and I try to make it vaguely presentable) Everyone else sees this and puts their keys in the drawer and their hat/gloves in the basket. Not DH. Hat on the table. Every. Single. Day. Grrrr.

saleorbouy · 15/03/2023 15:23

The way everything is now "super" exciting, "super" cute etc. What ever happened to just using very exciting, very cute.

When mums hashtag photos

"Mumtoboys" "girlmum" #twinlife" "perfectfamily"

Eugh, just makes me cringe. By all means share your photos, your family looks lovely. But we're not 14 anymore.
