Window cleaners - AIBU

UserError1 · 03/03/2023 11:41

I've had my windows cleaned, first time in at least three years (for the upstairs windows).

Cleaners came, it was £12, I live in a two bed semi.

Didn't really scrub at the bird shit that's been there for a few years and some water marks have been left. They didn't use that smart water either.

AIBU in thinking they did a shit job?

Also the neighbour booked it in - I messaged her asked for a recommendation but she didn't know anyone. Nect minute she says they are coming Friday and she doesn't know the price.

They knock on with the price, for a monthly
Clean. I was a bit tired today, so I didn't say "I only want a one of clean".

By the way I do clean downstairs, it's upstairs I can't do.

I feel like you got what you paid for.
You were mean to not be upfront that it was a one off clean.
If you wanted the frames and sills done they probably would have charged more.

soboredoflooking · 03/03/2023 16:06

@Magenta82 Yes ours is windows only but then it's a tenner 😂 I'm sure they'd be willing to do those too but it would probably be double the price or more!

UserError1 · 03/03/2023 16:07

@Magenta82 I wasn't mean. I did send them a sms asking for the price on Tuesday which they didn't respond to, they turned up today and called me when outside. Apologies for leaving that out.

My neighbour booked it in, I don't really see a value in getting my windows washed every month if they aren't going to do a good job - aka removing dried bird shit.

If they charged a little bit more as it was the first clean and subsequent cleans less, that's fair. However half assed job....

@Magenta82 the sills and frame aren't an issue, other people mentioned them. It was glass only.

I’m amazed at how little people pay… we pay £100 (inside and out though, and we do have a lot off windows though and are in London.
i would rather pay a bit more and get a proper job done, rather than dirt left on the windows…

Maybe they get loads of people cancelling after the first clean?

£12 is not a lot of money to dried old toxic bird shit, unless you've agreed to them coming monthly.

Maybe less people wouldn’t cancel after the first clean if they actually cleaned the shit off?

RedBobbleBeanie · 03/03/2023 18:29

We paid £45 for windows and frames, meant to be quarterly. They were done in 10 mins. Lead still dirty, and they skipped the window by the door and kitchen door glass. Not impressed 😟

Daffodilsandtuplips · 03/03/2023 22:46

I pay £12.00 for a monthly clean: 11 windows and a patio door and two half glass doors, the front and side doors.
It’s a franchise and they do a great job, they use de mineralised water from a big tank in the bag of their van the water is pumped by a compressor to a hose and a brush on a pole, so the water is always clean, much better than a bucket of water that’s been used for several houses. The windows dry without streaks or water marks. They always clean the window ledges and frames too.

Maybe people need to be upfront they want a one off clean?

Expecting them to clean years of grime and bird shit for £12 is unfair and OP got what she paid for.

This.

That £12 is not profit.

There is equipment, pure water, fuel, van insurance, liability insurance and various other expenses that have to come out first.

It is a business not a hobby and most window cleaners are small businesses doing it all themselves.

UserError1 · 04/03/2023 09:58

@UdoU @Magenta82 they set their price,.... the windows weren't heavily soiled and the couple of seconds it takes to actually clean bird poo of one window.... would have meant they would be getting repeat business.

£12, that’s a bargain. I was paying £16 for my one bed house and they did a good job. Just arranged a window cleaner for my new house, it’s £23 for a 3 bed semi but they charge £10 on top of that for the first clean as a first clean needs more work, which makes sense.

Is it a bargain if they don't clean
The glass properly?

£12 for three years of encrusted debris. Get a grip, or do it yourself

Passmethecrisps · 04/03/2023 22:30

I would probably give them another go and see if they fall into a better rhythm. Nothing lost - other than £12 quid

we pay £7 a month for our window cleaners. I have no idea who booked them and I have no idea how to contact them. They arrive, clean the windows and then knock requesting £7. The only chat they ever make is refusing to clean one particular window as “auld Billy didnae like us dein that yin”. Billy is the now long deceased previous home owner.

You mean the downstairs windows have been cleaned by me. One bedroom I've done and the other ones aren't bad.....
Yet the poo wasn't cleaned and full of streaks. I don't control the price, they do.

First clean in 3 years, they will have been dirty. The bird shit would have been really dried on too if it had been there years.
Didn't really scrub at the bird shit that's been there for a few years

TwoMonthsOff · 04/03/2023 23:09

@UserError1 sorry sounded a bit harsh, but £12 is not much these days for three years of film, doesn’t sound bad, so I thank you are big unreasonable, they will get cleaner the more they do them but really it’s very hard work cleaning windows and £12 is really cheap

UserError1 · 05/03/2023 00:01

Hi.
They quoted on site.
They knew the condition of the windows and the windows weren't bad. I do clean the downstairs windows, one window has been replaced and another I've cleaned myself. So one bedroom and one bathroom wasn't cleaned since I've lived here.

Again, they set the price whilst on site.

UserError1 · 05/03/2023 00:03

If they didn't clean the bird shit, which is just on one window, when will they clean
It. Probably never.
