Or other high street.
Not a zillion pounds.
Not something I need a chemistry degree for.
Not mail order (looking at you tret thingy).

If you had half an hour in Boots, what would you buy to put on your 45yr old, pale, slightly naturally oily in parts, recently spotty hormonal jawline (wtf NECK SPOTS??) under your Estee Lauder Double Wear in Desert Beige?

Nb. I already have La Roche Posay effaclar white tube of spot thing for my chin and I like it. Years ago I used to use Clarins day cream, liked that too. Also beauty flash balm.
Some things 'pill' under my Es Laud DW, but I am sticking with that foundation for now pls.

I look on Boots webpage and am FLUMMOXED.

I was going to suggest LRP Effaclar Duo 😂

Swiftswatch · 02/03/2023 20:38

At 45 I would ditch the double wear personally! It’s way to heavy and ageing on 40+ year old skin.

Porkscratching · 02/03/2023 20:44

I suppose it depends on your aims / what you want from your skin.

A non foaming cleanser, the cerave one is good, glycolic acid toner, and bha/aha is what I do.

Morning cleanse with cerave, then glycolic acid toner (here), light moisturiser, spf 50.
Night double cleanse with cerave, glycolic acid toner, bha/aha (here), light moisturiser.
Once a week I use a scrub. My skin looks better than it has in years. Previously hormonal spots and oily patches, now fresh and clear.

mnahmnah · 02/03/2023 20:45

Nivea Cellular range. Often on offer. I have the exact same skin as you and 43.

Treacletoots · 02/03/2023 20:48

Second @Porkscratching with Cerave.

Same age here and Cerave really has made a huge difference to my skin. (As well as profhilo, fillers and botox ;)

I'd perhaps drop the acids to twice weekly though personally.

If you have Aldi near you, they do a good Q10 day/night cream, for only a couple of quid.
The day cream is okay, but the night cream had done wonders for me

The boots tea tree and witchhazel range has a nice foaming face wash that is mild enough for every day but works well for the occasional outbreak.

sunshineonasunnyday · 02/03/2023 21:20

Have you tried the online consultation on boots website - it is £5.00 and honestly amazing!! You pay the consultation, upload your concern area photo, a few questions and they recommend products for skincare, which can be prescribed by them online and delivered or collected in store.

i’m same age as you and my skin literally exploded earlier last year, but since having a really good skin routine and starting by using the prescribed product by boots, I couldn’t be happier.

hope this helps

So1invictus · 02/03/2023 21:24

If your skin is oily rather than dry then a salicylic cleanser rather than a glycolic is best.

You don't need loads of products.

A cleanser- the CeraVe range above or the Effaclar cleanser as you already use and like the cream.

An SPF 50

A moisturizer

A vitamin C

A vitamin A/retinol at entry grade

Avoid scrubs at all costs, acid toners have replaced the need for the gritty irritating scrubs we all used in the past. A salicylic/bha toner is good for oily skin. Paula's Choice 2% very good though other ranges have the same % salicylic and are cheaper. Only use the acid toner in the evening and only a couple of nights a week initially. Not on the same night as retinol.

Thank you everyone, a lot to look at.
Must be me, but it still seems so...over complex! I think I imagine washing my face and rubbing cream in, then Night!
Oh, and it must be my skin but DW is still great on my skin, guess I'm old but not yet dry !!!

Neutrogena clear and soothe clay face wash is excellent.

PinkArt · 04/03/2023 00:52

You are me! So the Boots website is an absolute horror, but I'd buy/ do buy the La Roche Posay Effaclar Mat moisturiser for day and Effaclar H for night. And there's an Effaclar serum too. That range was such a breakthrough for me and my cross skin. Plus it's always on offer somewhere!
The Inkey List Niacinamide serum is good too. I forget to use it more but it's great at scaling back the shine the next day when I do.
