AIBU to go to the doctors about a cough?

I've had a cough for a week now, I feel like I have something on my chest and a thickly throat and no matter how much I cough (feels like every ten seconds) I can't clear it. My head is aching and rattling every time I cough, it feels constant, and my ribs are aching from all the coughing. I'm a teacher and getting through each lesson is so tough as can't stop these coughing fits.

Would a doc do anything or is it wasting their time?

What about going to a pharmacist?

This is interesting, I have had this cough and rib ache for a month now, it’s so bloody irritating.

After 3 weeks give them a call.

Do a covid test as they'll ask you if you've done one.

Poor you! you sound unwell, you need someone to check your pulse and oxygen levels and check your temperature ,listen to your chest. You are probably fine but you can’t exclude pneumonia over the net! If you are this unwell you shouldn’t be at school teaching!

Unlikely. Nothing a Gp can give really helps with a cough unless it's due to a chest infection. What you describe sounds like a viral cough. Ideally you need a few days to rest, plenty of fluids and paracetamol. Some cough syrups may help, but warm water with honey and lemon is probably just as good. The airways are inflamed and being in a dry, centrally heated classroom and having to talk all the time is the worse thing for you. Drink plenty of fluids as this will help thin down the mucus in your throat. Obviously monitor symptoms and see a Gp if you get a high temp or begin coughing up discoloured mucous

I feel silly even calling in sick at work for a cough, although I'm sure my colleagues have heard me coughing away this week.

It's the never ever getting rest that's hard isn't it- 2 little ones and a busy husband- would love to not get out for bed for a day or two!

I was like this over Christmas, I was rattling and wheezing. I had to go to A&E when I had difficulty breathing. After a week you should be starting to get better, the BBC says to seek medical advice if you've had it for 3 weeks.

Well it used to be three weeks with a cough go and see GP but maybe depends how bad it is.

My son away at Uni and has the same symptoms. He is now on week 5 this week and it still hurts when he breathes. We finally got him to sign up to a Uni GP this week. They checked his chest, said it was clear, said a lot of this about and said these things have to run their course.
