Is this usual for a cleaner?

My new cleaner has requested to take before and after photos in my home for a social media business page. Is this standard practice? I've never had a cleaner before hence my asking. I'm not sure how I feel about photos of the inside of my home with my personal belongings etc being published on someone's social media page. But it's possible I'm overthinking this so would appreciate views! Thanks

I would say no. I totally understand why the cleaner might want to do it but I wouldn't want the whole world seeing my house all dirty.

NotTooOldPaul · 02/03/2023 19:49

We use a company to clean our house. I've seen pictures posted by some of the cleaners with nice comments about our home. I like that they feel free to post and none of them have ever put anything that could identify my address. A couple of before and after pics is great.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 02/03/2023 19:50

No way!

Emmamoo89 · 02/03/2023 19:51

I wouldn't allow it

RosemaryEllen · 02/03/2023 19:52

Definite no from me

Before photos? How filthy is your house?

Just say no

Well it's not just my house. She has a Facebook business page which I've looked at, it's full of before and after pics.

I personally don't want my photos on there so I will be clear with her about that.

As an aside, she's done a fabulous job and I'm very happy with it. So I've told her that and I will most definitely leave her a positive review and recommend her etc.

I’m a cleaner too , and no I would never put pictures up . If your taking lots of pics there is not much cleaning going on .

Bignanny30 · 02/03/2023 19:54

No. I wouldn’t want pics of the interior of my property on someone’s social media page ! And besides is the cleaner implying that your house is so dirty that before and after pictures will show the difference 🤦‍♀️

Springchicken75 · 02/03/2023 19:55

Nope. I wouldn’t like it and would be worried about burglary. So it would be a no from us.

seratoninmoonbeams · 02/03/2023 19:56

I have a cleaner and tbh if she did before and after photos I don't think it would really show much difference as it's all relatively clean and tidy before she starts. Vacuuming and washing the floors, dusting and cleaning bathrooms, toilets and en suites and stuff wouldn't look particularly eye opening on a photo.

Rainallnight · 02/03/2023 20:03

If it was for social media, no way.

A local cleaner does this and is open critical of the state of the places she cleans. I don’t know how she gets away with it.

MysteryBelle · 02/03/2023 20:18

I think it is a compliment. She thinks you have a nice and well kept home that would look good in the pictures. If you like her, trust her, and she does a great job, I would consider letting her as long as you get to ok the pictures before she posts them. And as someone said, if the pictures are not identifying, wide angle pics etc.

MysteryBelle · 02/03/2023 20:20

I’ve just read the other comments. I agree you need to be careful and saying no is perfectly fine.

Irridescantshimmmer · 02/03/2023 20:22

Thats invasive and intrusive.

GreekDogRescue · 02/03/2023 20:28

The only cleaners who have asked if they can do this have been unreliable and absolutely useless. Good cleaners are hard to find and they just don’t need to do this. They get work from word of mouth not advertising

xprincessxjanetx · 02/03/2023 20:34

I can understand why they would ask but personally I wouldn't be comfortable with it so I would just decline.

ThisIsWednesday · 02/03/2023 21:03

I absolutely would not allow that. All they'll get on those pics is "Ugh, manky bastards!" And "How can anyone live like that?!" comments. It pokes fun at the person's home and increases the posters popularity.

There's a professional cleaning company in my town who specialise in deep cleans of trashed places, crime scenes and hoarder houses. They were constantly posting photos of nasty, filthy houses full of junk, or clean ups of drug abuser's houses, showing all their used needles and garbage everywhere. They got a lot of SM exposure at the expense of people with drug addictions or mental health problems who I would assume probably wouldn't like their life up there on the SM Freakshow.

Shesasuperfreak · 02/03/2023 21:04

I would be requesting a discount for providing content for her social media.

Merangutan · 02/03/2023 21:06

I would say no. I’d offer to write a testimonial but there’s absolutely no way ‘before’ shots of my unclean bathroom, bedroom etc would be going online.

Kaiserchief · 02/03/2023 21:35

I’m a cleaner. This is really very common nowadays.

Many of my customers have found me via my social media. They can see what a good job I do by my before and after photos. It’s a great advert for my business.

I have in my terms and conditions that I may take photos but even if they’ve agreed to me posting pics I always send them to them for approval before posting. If they say no, I don’t mind at all, it’s their choice. I’m there for the work, not the photos.

For the ones where there’s a big difference between before and after, shall we say, I turn the comments off. I always say that the photos are an advert for my work, they’re not for comments. I’m respectful and grateful that these people who needed help trust me and chose me to clean for them.

Cleaners are just normal self-employed people making a living. Some of the ways they’re spoken about on here (not by the OP!) is quite shocking. They don’t need to be looked down on (again, I don’t mean the OP), they don’t need to give discounts. I’m a very good, reliable and professional cleaner and I use photos and my social media as my shop window.

Kaiserchief · 02/03/2023 21:36

To add, I never tag people or locations and I never tell anyone who I clean for, or ever discuss anything with anyone else.

celticprincess · 02/03/2023 22:05

NeedToChangeName · 02/03/2023 19:40

@celticprincess That wasn't to you, BTW. Just a general comment. Each to their own

Ah no that’s fine.

also, my dad’s place was filthy. Cleaner went in for a deep clean as it had never been cleaned properly in over 20 years as his mental health wouldn’t allow for him to let people into his house. He became quite unwell though and did come to realise he needed help to get his home cleaned and for people to start coming in to help him. His property was an extreme example of how fantastic their cleaning was. But I can see how on a regular weekly or fortnightly clean there shouldn’t be the need for before and after if general upkeep is maintained.

Crumpleton · 02/03/2023 22:11

I'd say no.
If they want to promote their cleaning buisness I'm sure they could do one off cleans for friends and take photos there.

Kaiserchief · 02/03/2023 22:29

😂 my friends would never pay my prices!

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 02/03/2023 22:41

No way!
